Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

suit alteration

I posted this in the fashion thread - without any replies. So I'll try here

I have a suit from which the jacket fits perfectly but the pants are a little (not very) "baggy", and I think they don't look great. I do like the suit however.

Is it a complex tailoring job to have both trouser legs taken in from the waist to the hem?

I asked the alterations shop I usually get pants taken up/minor alterations done and they said it was no problem - but I have a feeling that a slight mistake here could wreck the pants.

If a tailor said it's no problem, you're probably safe enough in trusting them. They are the experts with this type of thing!

Where are you looking to get this done?

I've some suit trousers which have gotten baggy and I'd like to get them altered.

I'm in Cork - and usually get small jobs done by Zipyard (chain of "alterers") I will probably try to find somewhere more specialised for this though

There is a mens bespoke tailors in Cork called Moynihan's that may be a better bet than an alterations tailor.

It all depends on the amount that needs to be taken in. If its an awful lot then the trousers would need to be re-cut which would probably not be economical for an off the peg suit.

If your alterations tailor did take in too much it should be easy enough to let it be taken in again provided the excess is not cut away. Make sure to ask for this as you may need the excess if you gain weight for example.

Any competent tailor should be able to do it.

    I'll try Moynihan - thanks

don't suppose you know any in dublin worth their salt? I've two suits that i need both teh jacket and pants altered, I've lost about 4 stone in weight since i bought them and they have not really been worn so it'd be a shame to ditch them (one cost over € 200)

Given that amount of weight loss you may be better off getting a new suit, as your old suit might have to be entirely re-cut. Also for E200 you're unlikely to get a suit made from natural fibres.

I'd say treat yourself to a few new suits, in 100% wool.
