Shale rock and Post and Rail

Hi, I'm intending to run timber post and rail around my site. There is a 30 meter section of the boundary that consists of shale rock. Does anyone know how I can put post and rail into this section - would I have to someway drill holes in the shale rock and insert the posts? or is post and rail not an option at all in this…
