Broadcasting Soccer at Public events

Evening folks, I apologise if this is the wrong forum, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with this scenario.

Lets say that someone might be hosting a fairly large international science related conference in a university. The first day of the conference happens to fall on the European cup finals. If this person wants to show the match on a few screens/projectors at the welcome mixer would you need some kind of license ? Would streaming it online for example and showing it be a breach of some law ?

There are licenses required from Uefa for commercial public screenings. You can buy rights.

If less than 150 people, less than 3 metre screen and not charging in then you are exempt.

Assuming you aren't charging in to that part of your event and have no sponsorship of it then you might be ok.

Hi mate, thank you so much for the quick response, very very helpful.

Aye we have 600 delegates, and they do have to pay, and we also have sponsors :pac::pac: , so we will most likely pay out for the license, the only reason I suggested streaming is because I was not even sure where to go look for a license.

You won't be charging to actually watch the game though, so might be exempt, I.e you aren't screening to make money. Just dont have any sponsorship around where screning is. I think it is probably a bit late to look for a license.

You have to use the local broadcast partners signal anyway and not interrupt it or put other logos on the screen.

The Euros are on FTA TV i.e RTE or BBC. Once you have a TV licence for your premises you should be OK. If it was on pay TV i.e Sky SPorts, then you would need to take out a commercial sub with them.

Your use seems to be incidental. They are not paying it to see the matches, your sponsors would be sponsoring the event anyway and you're not showing it to sell food and beverages.
