I have been trying to find any information on my Grand-Dad John Donoghue ( Donaghue ) born approx 1856 in Ireland .

I have both copies of his Marriage/Death Certificates but no Birth Details , on his Marriage Certificate of 1885 in Liverpool it states his Father was Patrick then deceased occupation being a Blacksmith .

Johns Mother may have been Bridget ? also I visited Killarney when young with my Family I recall my Dad commenting he thought his own Family originated from the Area , unfortunately I didn't ask him any further details .

I appreciate that the Name is common in the Area , but any help would be appreciated .

    Regards

    Tony Donoghue

    Hi Tony

all RC church records for the diocese of Kerry are available online at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

and while Donoghue is a very common name you may be able to narrow it down if you know a particular month etc

Some of the parish names are a bit different nowadays too but there is a good map at http://www.dioceseofkerry.ie/parishHome.php

These may be your best places to start but you can also use the familysearch of the LDS at https://www.familysearch.org/

but I think I'd try the church records first.

    Best of luck

    Paul,

Thanks for your help and advice , the main problem I have is not knowing for definite Johns Mothers Name I have also joined various Sites including the O'Donoghue Society but no joy .

I have tried narrowing it down with John's Father Patrick being a blacksmith according to my calculation he would have been born late/early 1820/1830s .

There was also on the 1861 Census in Liverpool showing a Bridget Donoghue aged 30 and Son Joihn aged 6 but no Fathers details , this may however be a " red herring " because no similar records show on the 1871 .

John died aged 42 in a Workhouse in Liverpool when my Dad was only aged 9 prior to this John was in the Merchant Navy and because of this any details are limited .

I will keep delving may get a "lucky break" one day .

    Regards

    Tony
