Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Just watching Norwich v Celtic

Why is it being played after a long season for both teams?

    For Adam Drury

Ah right. Would it not be better to have that as a pre season game?

Nope because players are still around after the season and ready to play. Adam Drury has been fantastic for us, 11 years and still going strong. So happy to see Darren Huckerby still in flying form even though he retired 2 years ago. Great turnout for our legendary left back.

Bayern Munich were playing Holland tonight too. Bayern won 3-2, Robben played for Holland and was booed by the Bayern fans.

Juventus went on a post-season tour of the US last season.

Stuttgart are playing 9 post-season friendlies. Schalke were in the US last week playing Philly Union.

Why not make them play? They are getting paid.

    Because it's pointless?

Pre-season is to get players fitness levels back up, try out new tactics, introduce new players to the teams etc. What use are post-season matches?

Try out new tactics, and giving the fans more opportunities to see their team play.

Hamburg have been playing local teams from the area midweek all season since we are not in Europe and it has continued after the season ended. I'd rather have my players playing in meaningless games and keeping their fitness up for an extra few weeks, than them sitting on their backsides doing nothing. It's only May after all, 8 weeks off is too much and that is what they would have had if there were no friendlies.

Plus it is good for tactical reasons and letting some younger lads play. We played a 4-3-3 against Stuttgart in a friendly last week and it is now being considered as a formation for use in competitive games next season.

There's pre-season friendlies and a tour already organised so there's no time to fit in the testimonial before/during or after that.
