Insulation on the outside of the house? Pros & Cons!?

Hi Folks Any ideas out there on whether its a good idea to invest in this idea? Firstly we are a semi-detached house....Thats the first problem. Second, our passage way between the houses is quite limited for space, the bin barely fits through, is this a problem given the insulation that I have seen fitted can be 4inches…

Any ideas would be great. i am thinking of getting professional advice on it during the summer, recommendations on who to talk to would be great.
