Landing a Wingsuit without a Parachute - Today

Just turned on Sky News to see that this will be attempted in about 15 minutes. Full details here; basically, the guy will jump out of a plane from over 4,000 ft, glide along using a wingsuit, and land it without deploying a parachute. If this has you going "so what?", the problem is that while the wingsuit converts the fall in to a glide, it's a fast glide. He can't just slow down to walking speed: he'll stlll be going about 50mph when the wingsuit "stalls" and he drops out of the sky like a brick. So he has a huge row of cardboard boxes to stop him ... :eek:

The parachute's in case it goes wrong when he's still well clear of the ground. It if goes wrong at or near the landing, the most dangerous phase, the parachute will be no use whatsover.
