Would love to get my hands on some of this, doesn't seem to be available in Ireland though.

Which parts do you feel are unavailable here?
I don't see why you couldn't use a tin of condensed milk, a dark roast coffee and something like a clever coffee dripper to replicate. Bodum have a small single cup filter which sits on top of a mug.

Yeah I was thinking of the cool yoke on top but supposed that can be ebayed (it's a word!). I'll check out that Bodum thing too thanks.

eBay is probably your best bet. A search for Vietnamese coffee throws up several results both in USA and Asia. 20 euro should get you one delivered.

    Edit, UK seller here

Bargain price and all you'll need is a tin of Carnation milk.

The metal filter things are fairly ingenious the way you sit it onto its cap so that you don't get coffee on the table. I had a load of them as they were coming free with boxes of Trung Nguyen coffee for awhile but they seem to have disappeared now.

The condensed milk they use is very very sweet; that amount would be fairly sickening. Depending on the type of coffee you buy, some of them are designed to go with milk and some are designed to drink black. Some coffee will filter quite slowly and it won't be hot by the time it gets into the cup, so it's usually better to pour it into a glass full of ice and have iced coffee.

Thanks, I've just ordered a filter. Will experiment with various milks and coffees.

Cheers for the links, I meant to order one of these a while back. Be careful, there's filters held down 'just by gravity'.. and filters that turn into a notch. The concensus seems to be that the notch type are more reliable.

It's on this rather colourful compilation.

The rest of the songs have their moments, but it's a bit patchy. Not Vietnamese songs though, which a lot of the video commenters have pointed out.

Vietnamese iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk (Ca phe sua da) is one of the nicest drinks I have ever had. I can only recommend that if you ever get the chance to try it!

Thanks I'll download it after I try one of these coffees for myself!

Yeah it's good stuff alright, I've tried making it with condensed milk and coffee over here - not quite the same. Might see if I can get my hands on a Vietnamese roast.

    Totally agree.

I drank it when travelling in Vietnam.

There are load of Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road, east London, for anyone visiting. You always get great coffee in them.

Ever find any? I know there used to be a show downstairs in Moorestreet mall that did lots of varieties of coffee beans/flavours but I wasn't looking for vietnamese at the time. Be cool if they had it though, my stash is starting to dwindle..

Can anyone recommend a standard enough brand of ground coffee you can get easily in a supermarket in Ireland that'll taste somewhat like Vietnamese coffee? I've got the drip cup and the condensed milk, but my stash from vietnam is quickly depleting :P

I've no idea which would be best to replace with: columbian, arabica etc..

Yes, they sell it in the oriental shop in rathmines, but I think they have a bigger store at the jervis luas stop, if you are living closer to town. It's a bit of a hit and miss with them thou... sometimes they are out of stock for months.
