Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Cmon folks, leave it out. It was an accident that some of their optical media had rookit-like properties. And it certainly wasn't by design, that when the pS3 powers on, it scans your home network to harvest any data it can about any device on it & trasmit such data to Sony. Jeez, cut a company a break

For just a moment I thought you were being genuinely sympathetic towards Sony.... Just for a moment like...

Nothing really retro today, just some portable games. Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time, Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja and Super Robot Taisen OG Saga.

I also got reminded about the plight of collecting retro games. Just when you think your collection is complete you discover another game you simply have to have, this time a DS game that looks like a pain to source :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 156 ✭✭RNB

Why not share the pain? :)

What's the game? We can all keep an eye out for you...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

What DS game has sprung up? My bank account is still cooling down from Tokyo so I'm certainly won't be competing with you for it :)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,962 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

There's enough competition for it :P I'll say when it's in my hands!

Any clues? Genre, developer, Euro release etc?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,641 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Hmmm, a DS game that Retr0 has been trying to source, time to do some Googling.... how about something to do with cosplay, japanese schoolgirls, Limerick and male dating.....

There's only 16,000 DS games for sale on ebay, shouldn't take long to sift out the rubbish, or not....

    Found it!
    Oh yeah, now we're talking!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,962 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Enternow got it in one :P

I don't want to say what it is since it seems tough to get in Europe for a decent price, I might have to call in some favours. It's one of those games that on ebay it is available for $20 but nobody will ship to Europe and the only person that will is charging 50+ euros. It didn't review well either but I think it seems interesting and the games I actually enjoyed this generation have been ones that didn't review well but were in the end interesting.

Also **** amazon.com for not shipping to Ireland.

Avalon Code by any chance? That's the only swing I'll take at it!

my guess is Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain

Was considering it but I've heard it's pretty crap.

Not even tough to find in Ireland let alone Europe and the US.

No, but screw you because I want it now!

Heed Retr0gamers advice on the matter. Get NTSC Versions.

Between the 50/60Hz speed difference and the length of RPGs of FF7's ilk you've probably enough time to complete another game as well.

Its ok, buying the PAL version entitles to download the NTSC versions guilt free :D

Yeah but has an interesting 'scan' mechanic. That, coupled with mediocre reviews made it jump into my head upon reading your post :)

I'm finished buying PAL anything, unless forced to by a language barrier. The speed differences, the better artwork, the usually cheaper cost make it so much more worthwhile investing in NTSC

Fantastic game, one of Sunsofts best, which is saying a lot since Sunsoft made some fantastic stuff on the NES. It has a proto super metroid structure. ufouria is pretty hard to find and since it's one of the few games that got a PAL release and not a US one it's pretty sought after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 616 ✭✭✭Casey120

    Thanks for that .

The Nes mostly passed me by because I was totally into home computers then ;)

Gaygamer was talking about that tingle balloon fight game a few days ago, it sounds great. Lots of games there that weren't translated :( I'd love Square to translate rocket slime 3.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

I love the original balloon fight and am a sucker for DS and Club Nintendo stuff so was a must buy this year, only found one place that had it. Soma Bringer and Blood of Bahamut were only a few euro each, had long given up on them getting localisations so picked them up for the hell of it. Reckon rocket slime 3 has a reasonable chance of a US release anyway, almost no chance of Europe if previous releases are anything to go by.

Tiny Toon Adventures is good stuff. It is a SMB3 clone, but hey, there's worse games to rip-off wholesale. Its sequel is better game though, I guess. Less clone-y.

Yes, while I consider buying the original. Been playing a lot of shooters lately on the Saturn and I want to pick up an original copy of Shienryu. I think I prefer the older shooters over the newer ones. The seller told me he thought the PS was modded and it turned out he was right.

It came with that controller and memory card off the seller. Anybody know a good place to get disks polished? There a some scratches on some of the disks and would like them cleaned up.

Smyths will polish audio cds so I'm sure this service would do fine for Playstation CDs.

Don't ever EVER get Dreamcast discs rebuffed though... you'll only have a bad time.

Anyway I wasn't really sure where to put this but I finally have it all finished and cable managed. Only two of the consoles aren't hooked up correctly as I need some longer video / power cables but I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. Warning Cable Porn incoming, may be NSFW! It's amazing what some cable tidies, cables ties and velcro can do!

Started off by mounting an 8-way power splitter to the wall, then mounted my router to underside of the shelf that you can see here. Had to take the router apart and break the under casing a little to mount it to the shelf. I then had to superglue the router back together as I then had no access to screws to put it back together. A minor mishap.

    QOhcn.png

I started off the main cable management then by using some velcro to mount a 6 in 1 SCART switcher to the underside of the TV.

    uHtXt.png

    bEwkI.png

The next part took.... days of tweaking to get right and to make practically invisible from the front but it seems to have worked out quite well. Also mounted more plug strips to various points of the unit.

    mmJKI.jpg

    528567_4746941154256_1706429658_n.jpg

The final look of the router / modem area:

    TCvdt.png

Try to ignore the long tangled ethernet cable in the above shot, I didn't have a cable that was quite the right length to reach my microserver/htpc.

The finished article from my vantagepoint on the couch :-)

    D5hso.jpg

From a slightly different angle... ahh velcro is a wonderful thing for remote control management!

    Db0tz.png

A well deserved reward I think:

    x4Vrl.png

So what will all of this awesomeness be used for? Knowing my non gaming girlfriend it'll be less epic gaming sessions and more X-Factor and Corrie marathons. Ahh well.

As said before I'd be worried about the PS3 and 360 overheating since they aren't well ventilated.

360 hasn't been hooked up yet for that very reason, nor has the Dreamcast. I plan to swap them around over the next few days.

Also sorry for the gigantic pics I've resized everything now.

That's what the drawers in the bottom left are for. Pads and random cables / PSUs etc.

Love soma bringer , it plays a bit like diablo crossed with golden axe , all the while using ff 7s materia system. Ive played a fan translated patch and would happily bought a retail version , but it was never released outside japan...boo!

Hi, I'm in Las Vegas at the moment and checked out a retro store called "a gamer's paradise" earlier today. It's small enough but has a good few free to play arcade cabinets knocking around. There wasn't much in the way of rare games there but I did pick up both NES Zeldas and Double Dragon for only thirty bucks, all unboxed unfortunately. I took a few pictures but can't upload to boards from my phone.
