Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Wouldn't mind retrobriting the famicom and getting a new set of stickers for it. Would be afraid of making the plastic too brittle though.

Picked up MDK for the PS1, loved this game on PC years ago. Lets hope its aged well :) Doesn't need any retrobrite either.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,641 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

That's a great game, better on the PC, the higher resolution really helps the game.
It introduced effective sniper action into console games long before Goldeneye allegedly pioneered it.
Plus, it has "The Worlds Most Interesting Bomb" in it, not too shabby!
    Some great bosses too.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,965 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I loved MDK as well but the PS1 port is quite poor in comparison to the PC version.

Also forgotten and underrated Outlaws had the sniper rifle before even MDK, although I'm pretty sure there was one before that as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,245 ✭✭✭MrVestek

MDK2 on the Dreamcast was brilliant... I really must try pick up a copy of that and Fur Fighters again.

Also Ciderman it's called retrobrite not retro****e...

I left loads of my underwear the last time I was in your ma's house... I don't mind if you borrow it. :-)

That's a shame, ah well if it sucks I can get the PC version from GOG.

The console version of MDK came out after Goldeneye.

Given that MDK was published on the PC and the version on the PS was a straight translation I think you are being a bit pedantic.
If you like, MDK predates Goldeneye in a fun implementation of the sniper rifle.
I sure those with too much time on their hands will enjoy Googling and proving me wrong.
    Have fun!

Just picked up Donkey Kong Land, Pokemon Blue and Silver and also Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, all for 25, happy with that, okay they're cart only but the Oracle games are pretty expensive atm so I'm pleased.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,641 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

    Ah bugger!
The version of Pokemon Silver is a fake, the rom on the cart is fine and there is a battery in there but the case of the cart is a clear blue GBC case, not the expected standard GB case.
    Damn and buggerit!

Still, at least Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is the real deal.

I didn't have to google it, I remember both games coming out.

The bolded part is a bit of a snide and uneccessary comment. I'd like an apology or am I to assume the rules don't apply to mods?

Well, no offence was intended, so sorry about that.

But, while we are on the subject....

Mods are bound by the same rules as everyone else.

Perhaps if you were more familiar with the forum you'd have observed that I'm pretty fair and even handed around here.
I apply not only the rules but also a sense of fair play and common sense to the application of said rules.

Personal offence is so subjective, a sense of humour is often lacking in those who rise up about minor details.

Like I did when called on the MDK/Goldeneye thing.

But I don't much like it being suggested that I don't apply the rules and I really don't see it being demonstrable here within the A&R forum.

Also, a thick skin is a recommended minimum requirement in these parts, we call each other out on all sorts of things, with differing opinions on just how sh1te Gunstar Heroes is, on who is the biggest Halo: Reacharound fan, on why Steve has to have two of everything (I reckon he looked into his underpants and said "well, if it's great to have two of those, imagine how fantastic it'd be to have two of everything else!).

I seem to have gone way beyond that with certain items(14+ 3DO's and it gets worse).

And so it should be, no sense in the 3DO's of this world falling into the hands of CDi owners and Jag fans, 3DO's were a wonderful machine and seem to be one of the few consoles that, because of the use of both polygonal and extensively bitmapped visuals, has stayed looking good.
The Need for Speed and Road Rash and Return Fire look better on the 3DO than the PS or Saturn and they still are cool to play today..... in my opinion (humble)...

Well its about time I got around to getting one of these. My friend was using this to hold up his new tv so I took it off his hands. Looks amazing and my pictures done do it justice at all. Just need to get on making a handy little table that can take a console or 2 underneath and get the remotes working again

Jaysus, I love a good bit of CRT porn. Nice one man!

Here's the reason I'm getting rid of my NTSC Jap Saturn, got a modded PAL one. Three switches and pictures of CDRs beside it, I assume that means it has a mod chip? Any other reason to have a third switch?

And yes, before anyone says it, I know the switch placement is beyond stupid, I will get around to fixing that :D

    saturn.jpg

Edit - Confirmed, has a mod chip! Well that was a steal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

The standard region mod involves three switches.
There's also a dual switch way of doing it, which would mean the other is a 50/60Hz switch.

Please tell me it has a 60Hz switch!

Ah that's horrible mounting the switches there, subtly is beyond some people I guess.
Single 50/60 switch is all you really need mounted at the rear - you do have a 4-in-1 cart don't you :)

I think I've a spare model 2 case here somewhere if you need it.

Ooooh, that'd be brilliant of you, thanks! Sure let me know if it turns up.

So yeah, one of them is a 50/60hz switch, the other is the modchip switch...I take it the last one is a region lock switch which the 4 in 1 gets around. Might just not drill a hole for that at the moment so. Can leave it inside for when my 4 in 1 destroys the cart slot! :D

It was advertised as a 101, really nice guy too. I'd been trawling adverts asking people to check the model numbers for me, then this one came along, with its credentials out in the open :)

Anyone who has seen the great and powerful ags 101 tend to be left in awe alright.
It is so much better than the original SP it's not an option really, if you love any games from the Gameboy series of consoles then you owe it to yourself to pick up one of these.
The screen is similar to the Micro but larger, not dissimilar to the DS lite.
Plus, the clamshell design keeps the screen scratch free, unlike the vulnerable GB Micro screen.

There is no switch for the mod chip, one is the 60Hz one & I'd say the two others are region switches. If your doing a case swap, set it so its back to its home region & then tape up the switches & leave them inside. Drill a new hole at the rear of the new case, maybe even on the battery flap if possible, & use that for 60Hz switching :)
