that silent hill box took a serious crushing. You almost have to flatten a PS2 case to do that to it. Unless it got run over by the post van it was sent like that O_o

A few cab related bits arrived today. Decided to change the cp layout again. Lost count how many iterations it's gone through now. :)

On the postage thing, they now offer a discounted international postal option for the UK. So with a little Parcel Motel magic the shipping is a little cheaper.

I didnt even price shipping it to parcel motel as i didnt think it would make a difference. doh. They have a great set of dexter coasters on there, it was sold out but its basically the box he keeps the blood slides in and the slides are the coasters, brilliant idea.

They've got some great stuff on Thinkgeek, some can be gotten closer to home but a lot of the really good stuff is only available from them.

I wonder how import duty works on parcel motel?

not sure why I even bought it, as I don't have a multi-region ps1 (yet), but it was brand new sealed.

Anyway, it's essentially the US version of the game, with English audio and Japanese subtitles, and a bonus disc with maps, character information, design sketches, and other trivia.

    Lovely!!!

I remember when that international version came out - I hoped and hoped it would see a release over here. Of course it didn't though.

I'm pretty sure the bonus disc also has all the FMVs which you can watch back over.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,965 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Well the international editions are usually just the Western releases of the games in japanese, with the exception being FFXII which was never released in the West and was apparently a massive improvement on the game. Wouldn't mind having a look a the bonus disc though which I'm sure makes the package worth it.

Same lad I got those PCB feet from I think?

Just got Virtues Last Reward. You know a game is hard to find when there's even bugger all copies on ebay.

Also picked up a scart adapter for my new Commodore 1084s monitor. The RGB input is 6 din for some reason. Thankfully it's just a physical difference, an adapter can easily turn it into a standard scart socket.

I think they flat out refuse anything with duty on it as they'e not willing to pay for something that may never be collected.

I noticed Tescos are selling them too, 8GB and 32GB models. Didn't pay much attention to the prices but they were north of €300 anyway. Think it might have been around €370 for the 32GB one.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 3,184 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dr Bob

There were an initial run of tengen tetris carts (the rival to nintendo's version in the tetris rights lawsuit) made and shipped to stores before they lost the case. The shipment got recalled and warehoused/destroyed, but several thousand copies were sold before that happened. Now THAT would be a nice cart to have...

Best feckin version of Tetris ever , that , it turns up on XXX in 1 pirated Famicoms a lot , in fact the first time I saw it on one , alongside BPS's rubbish official one I assumed that teh BPS was some Hong kong prirated one , and the Tengen one was official
Here's me blathering on about it , comparisons between the two start at 10:20

Zavvi are doing bundle deals. Basic pack plus a section of games for the price you see in my screenshot.

Good video. That's some nice blathering! ;-)

It is a great version, way better than the official effort, especially for the 2 player mode. The gameboy one was the definitive version for a good while though, most people reckon in retrospect that it was better than both the NES ones. I still play the SNES one that came on an import cart with doctor mario an odd time.

I found that documentary all in one piece on YouTube. It was BBC not channel 4, same one you referenced in your vid. It's really worth a watch for anyone who doesn't know the story behind the game.

    Here yiz go!

Mario Party 1,2 and 3 for the nintendo 64.
Mario Golf and Kart as well.
All boxed and nicely looked after except Mario Party 1, comes with only its manual.

Took nearly 17 days to get from Germany! Got Chrono Trigger and Bobmerman from US before them and those two were ordered after the German Mario Bunch.

Just nabbed myself a copy of Air Combat on PS1. It's platinum, but sure not to worry. The disc needed to be dusted off (it was kept seperate from the box), but it seems to be running grand. Still has that unique blend of great harmless craic, and boring as feck.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,641 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Love that game, DO NOT play it on normal, play it on whatever the frak the next difficulty level is, there is more to do and it's a better game.
Got that tip back in the day from the magazine Maximum, may blessing be upon it, it did some awesome previews of the upcoming consoles, the Saturn and the PS, and in it's review/preview of Air Combat/Ace Combat it gave that tip, and immensely improved the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭deathrider

Yeah, I was wondering if upping the difficulty would spawn more enimies, or just make the same ones hit harder. I used to play the hell out of it back in the day though. From what I can remember I swapped Warhawk (in a funky cardboard case) for it at the time. Must try and get my hands on a copy of that one of these days.

Upping the difficulty seems to reinstate the gameplay missing in normal mode.
Plays great, plenty of action and a blast. The visuals are basic, even by PS standards but, given the utilitarian graphics of most flight sims of the day, it looks just fine. Some might prefer it to the rather over ornate sequels, particularly the third one.

Warhawk was a grand game, interesting controls!
I used to love those cardboard boxes, NBA 96, MK3 and Assault Rigs were all in such cases. Rentals also sometimes came in them, with a brief instruction outline, including controls, printed on the rear.

Speaking of classic PS titles, I must get Motorhead sometime, 60fps afaik, nice visuals too.
How did anyone manage V-Rally though, car bounced about like it was running on helium filled tires!

I found a seller who did nice combined shipping and couldn't help myself when I saw all the nice things he had. They arrived today.

    On DS:

    Boing! Docomodake DS
    Hero's Saga Laevatein Saga
    Castlevania Portrait of Ruin
    Game and Watch Collection
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (Finally!)

    For GBA:

Kingdom Hearts Key Chain of Memory (utter **** but I have all the others :/)
    Super Robot Taisen 2

    For Gameboy
    Final Fantasy Legend 2

Not bad for a little over 100 euros of my savings.

Likewise, I never got too into Air Combat's sequels. All the Ace Combat's looked great (I remember being blown away by the demo for Ace Combat 2), but I just never had as much fun with them as I did on the original.

I remember a small handful of them packing those boxes alright. I still see the MK3 one in Rage from time to time. Don't think I've every heard of a racer called Motorhead. I do, however, remember playing a game based around the heavy metal band Motorhead waaaaaaaay back when. It certainly wasn't on Playstation though.

Portrait of Ruin, nice. It's the only handheld Castlevania game I have, keep meaning to get more like Order of Eccelsia.
Oh wait I have Circle of Moon as well!

What's the story with the castlevania coming for the 3ds? Shaping up to be good or rather meh?

I thought I had it already but I actually only played it on a flash cart. I kind of wish I never got the thing because I almost missed buying so many games because of it but I'm making up for it now and it's great for fan translations.

In another note I'm closing in on 100 DS games in my collection :)

As for the 3DS game I'm hearing a lot of meh from people. The combat is kind of monotonous and you are closed in until you finish fights unlike the older Iga produced games. Jeremy Parish certainly isn't a fan.

Unless it's get absolutely panned upon release it will be ,alone with Fire Emblem, my main 3DS gets in the spring.

    That's an impressive 3DS haul, I've only about 20.

Unrelated note, but Where the Angels Fear to Tread from Seiken Densetsu 3 has to be one of the best pieces of gaming music.
