We're looking at setting up a new type of deals site, that we hope will be a better experience for both customers and businesses alike.

It's still in the concept stage, so we'd love to have a chat with anyone who has been through the process of selling on Groupon, Living Social, Grab One or any other similar sites.

Our concept gives more control to the business owner in terms of reach and discounts. We want to talk with business owners to try and improve the concept so it might serve businesses better and also to learn about the process from your perspective.

If interested in sharing your story and learning about the site, it'd be great to get a PM from you!

    Many thanks

Not another one! Make sure that you differentiate your site strongly from all the others.

It'll be very different :) I don't want to disclose any info publicly to go in to details.

Good. :) The deals site market in Ireland is getting a bit crowded. Groupon, Living Social and GrabOne (Independent) seem to be making a play for the market. I've also seen a few others - some are well differentiated but there's a lot of me-tooism in the market.

We'll be up against the big guys, but in our own little way. Our platform will be quite different from what's out there now. We're not tackling them head on, far from it really.

I think that the current sites favour the service sector far more than physical goods.

I would be correct in saying most like a minimum of 50% discount and their fee is 25-30% of the discounted rate?

If your system could cater for all classes of goods/services with realistic discounts for that sector etc. it would be good.

Are you focusing on the Irish market at the start?

Where there seems to be movement internationally is in "Group Buying" sites.

Where this can work very well is with utility companies / phone companies.

Basically you get 200 (or whatever number) people with similar requirements to sign up and then you approach Airtricity asking for their best rate for a 2 year guarantee for this batch of customers.

Can work with Insurance, phones, tv services etc - potentially as list grows, could work with major purchases such as lawn mowers and even cars. (fleet price can be up to 10% lower than lowest cash price)

In a way, you are deleting the cost of procuring the sales which can be up to 15%.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Yes our model is along the lines of this, but with a bit more to it :)

Would you mind putting up a few URLs of the sites you've seen doing this?

Times are different now jmcc! A significant amount of people are actually on the internet now, compared to then, and buying online is extremely commonplace and just like going into a bricks and mortar store (again, unlike then :) )

Yep. Heard that the first time too. :)

It is an order of magitude more now. But would have enough critical mass in the Irish market?

For services and easily tranported products it is. However this kind of clustered buying operation has to contend with comparison type websites - many of which were not there the first time around.
