I think that's a green drive. Not the fastest drive to use as your main OS drive.

Secondly, the 6950 is a bit of a waste with the 7850 being much better and only 20-30 more.

Finally, August is a long way a way in the computer world. Hopefully you'll see a better hard drive selection then. There may also be another option or two for mid range graphics cards.

is it likely that people will actually start to hold off for windows 8 to creep onto the shelves in october rather than buying in July august or September?

You never know what people might do but I don't think it's worthwhile if you want a new PC at that moment. There's no official release date. Hints for October seems to be it. We haven't got a release candidate yet, although that's hinted for June too.

    I wouldn't wait because
    1) Windows 8 doesn't really offer anything fantastic over Windows 7
    2) You could use a Windows 7 trial without license for 120 days
    3) We'll probably have a release candidate for Windows 8 a few months before release which is usually valid for a year or so.

OK, 2 and 3 require a reinstall but it's not that much trouble if you don't want to buy a new license.

I would say come back in August or whenever you are ready to build because nvidia could have something to match the 7850 .

    Apparently it's a June release.
Source, surprisingly enough is RTE news :P
Although they said it was the full release coming in June but that's not until around November.

That was more in response to jameshayes. I'm certainly not impressed with Windows 8 either.

Are you aware that the second PCI-E slot only works at half speed?

    http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77V_LX/#specifications

Edit: If it was me, I'd scale back to a 7850 so that I could get a small SSD for the OS.

Edit 2: Also it would be kind of hard to say about the heat. Maybe get a fan controller so that you can compensate for heat increases. You might notice the big heat build up in a small room before your computer does.

No I wasn't what about this one and if not can you recommend one for that price

What about this? There will be 4 fans. I've never used one before so i'm not sure what to look for

That one is the same, you can see it in the specifications where it says "x4". Also that's a H77 board. Z77 would be a lot better. The only other board with similar specifications that I see there is the asrock pro 4.
If you really want crossfire, you'd have to be spending around 120-130.

Yes, good SSD. One of the best.

Yeah, I'm sure that would probably do the job in terms of a fan controller. I'm just thinking that having a lot of fans could end up sounding like an airplane and sometimes motherboards don't offer great control over them. Depends on the board though.
