A search will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) on the shore around Oranmore for David Gilligan, a third year commerce student here in NUI, Galway who has been missing since last Tuesday. The Gardai have requested help for this task.

Searchers will require a reasonable level of fitness, should wear strong, waterproof footwear and should be able to take direction from those in charge.

Volunteers meet at Oranmore Garda Station at 9am.

There has been a change of plan. All volunteers are asked to assemble at the car park beside the changing rooms in Dangan sports area at 9am.

Why wont Meteor release his phone records?

Chief Superintendent Marie Skehill is now making an appeal to landlords in the Dangan and Newcastle area to check any properties that may now be vacant following the departure of many student occupants at the end of the college term.

A request has also been made to property owners in the area to check outhouses and sheds.

The will release them to the gardai but not the family.[/QUOTE

Davids brother said the Gardai told him that it is out of their hands, something to do with the data protection act

It takes 1.5 hours max for the gardai to get phone records legally-following the correct procedures. There is obviously some reason, that is very important and honourable, that the gardai , for whatever reason, are not being asked to get the records and pass them to the Gilligans. Meteor....Give them to the Gilligans asap

He did not say that the gardai said that? The interviewer mentioned data protection....and that is squashed if the gardai want the info for an investigation

Shane did not say that. He said it is out the gardai's hands. He did not say that the gardai said that. The interviewer mentioned data protection....and that is squashed if the gardai want the info for an investigation

He did, he said it is out of the Gardai's hands, why would he be raging with Meteor, sure once they are in the hands of the Gardai, then all is ok, but Meteor still have not handed over the records to either of them

There is no issue retrieving phone records legally. The gardai must access them before the family. The gardai need the familys permission. Meteor can only release to the gardai.
