Harsh on the Sheffield keeper. I bet he never bargained on having to take one!

    Simples.

Short penalty shootout involving 3 players from each team to take place at 90 minutes.

Then extra time to be played and if no goals scored, the team that won the shootout wins.

no one can ever really play for penalties then, and if they do, they'll have to defend like crazy for half an hour.
This is at the very least...creative. I quite like it.

Game of knuckles. Team with the least number of crying players at the end wins.

Penalties are cruel but hard to think of a better way to settle a game really, it is a skill after all, plus it is very exciting for the neutrals. The idea of taking them before extra time is an interesting one. What if they continued with penalty shoot outs, but just took the penalties from further out? I think the main negative point about shootouts is that the player is expected to score, and when he doesn't, it seems as if it's his fault for losing the game (e.g Schweinsteiger), however if they were taken from further out and players were no longer 'expected' to score, this would potentially make it more seem about who is the player to score the winning peno rather than who will be the one to make a mistake to lose it.

After the 90mins, the two keepers must leave the pitch and the next goal wins.

i reckon trying out goal diff meaning team A knows team B has scored 5 more goals in the competiton so team A knows they must win the final in 90 mins otherwise if its a draw team B wins the cup. some might say team B might park the bus for 90 mins but id tell ye this much id love to see team A tryin to crack that defence for 90 mins. And if team A did score a goal well then its up to team B to level it at 1-1 to win the game yes its a draw, thats why they would still have more goals scored then team A. Confused?????

its just goal diff but its in a cup final one team knowing they must win by at least one goal in 90 mins if not the team that has more goal scored in the tournament wins.

that way you would get more goals in the tournament as a whole, well at least teams that fancy their chances in it trying to score more goals

Problem with that is that the cup runs both teams have had are not comparable. Take FA cup for example: team A could have played against non-league and lower league teams all the way through to the final (let's call them Manchester U, no M United). Team B could have had a tough run of premier league and championship teams, where the opportunity to score more goals is reduced. Goal difference works when each team plays the same games (in a league) but doesn't really transfer to cup competitions.

I reckon they should have a round of the crossbar challenge. Each of the 11 players on a team go at the same time, lashing a ball from the halfway line to try to hit the crossbar. It'll be a bit anonymous with them all shooting at the same time and great craic to see them do it. They could even have both teams shooting at opposite goals at the same time to remove the advantage of going first
