Give the xbox a static ip, port forward the xbox live ports and make sure upnp is on

Your XBox will work fine on standard UPC, but you should setup the Xbox with a static address and use the same address on the UPC router page as DMZ host.
That way you will ensure lag free, conflict free gaming (Live chat can be problematic)

Cheers buddy all that just went over my head but I'll go into the
Router settings now and have a gander

Yea it can be a bit much, but all you need to do is find DMZ Host
And in there enter for eg. 192.168.0.3 and then on the network setting in the xbox , manually input i.p as 192.168.0.3.
    Sorted.

I did that ipconfig thing to find the dmz ip
Is it ipv4 address or default gateway ??
Or the same as the Xbox

Default gateway on UPC is 192.168.0.1
You can use your own created ip for DMZ, just use 192.168.0.3

Sorry man I'm useless here lol
My Xbox is on auto settings and ip is 192.168.1.13
So on my router I enabled dmz and put this ip in 192.168.1.13

If I put the ip manually into Xbox settings I can't connect
Do I have to put the dns settings on Xbox to manual too and put in
The settings that are there on auto settings

If you leave it like that your ip will change sometimes on the XBox so you won't be guaranteed to have a DMZ'd connection.
So yes you need to enter dns too
    so try this.
    ip: 192.168.0.3
    subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Dns: 89.101.160.4 (primary), 89.101.160.5 (secondary)

TBH, I wouldnt bother modifying the settings for UPC.

Ive never once had hastle or lag what so ever on UPC fibre it just doesnt happen. Wasted excercise.

Just leave everything at auto unless something doesn't work. All this crap about DMZs AND uPnP and static IPs... I've never need to do any of that across routers from DLink to Apple to Linksys.

It does happen, you can get a Strict NAT with default settings, and that can cause disconnects and Live chat problems.

SSID is the name of your network. If you have UPC, it will be on the bottom of the router. It will be something like "UPC534254", you'll know it when you see it. You shouldn't have to touch that though, the Xbox should pick up your SSID with a scan..

No, The default setting for UPC router settings is leaving both fields blank.

Usage limit is 500Gb on all speeds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 790 ✭✭✭DUBLINHITMAN

    Yeah 500g ,
You would only go over that limit,
if you wanted to download every movie That's been released since you were born . Joking aside it would be hard unless your sharing the broadband with house mates or something
