The guy should be sacked. This kind of unfair behavior needs to be stamped out. Its a perfect example of how this country ended up where we are now. The aul wink, wink, nudge, nudge scenario should no longer be tolerated. The most qualified and best person for the job should get the job, but what hope is there when people are still sticking family members into positions that should be made available to everybody...total disgrace. He should resign or be sacked. Simple as.

Not one bit surprised, typical Public Service as a whole. Same as our political system. Nobody is accountable and nobody gets fired for doing a less than satisfactory job.

Its ridiculous, you can just worm your way out of any accountability. its akin to not turning up for work for a week, being told you can either be sacked or leave yourself, but we'll still pay you for whats left on your contract. the PS needs an overhaul but it'll never happen, its too corrupt.

There needs to be a regulator or ombudsman for the PS to stamp out this kind of ****e. People getting golden handshakes and nice fat pensions and then being rehired a few months later its sheer corruption. Then when there's a few jobs going relatives and friends of those in power get their foot in the door its an absolute disgrace. There are people on the dole with masters degrees in their chosen field and years of experience that have no chance when it comes to greedy nepotism like that! drawing a nice pension and being rehired after a lump sum retirement payment was issued is just a dirty slap in the face to every tax payer in the country. Its complete mockery!

Both were employed by Mr Kenny without adherence to the public sector recruitment regulations.
Referring to Mr Fitzgerald's comments about the urgency required in recruiting staff, Mr Mackey said it "did not justify compromising standards of corporate governance" and that the regeneration board had the same responsibilities and duties as all other State bodies.

Heavily critical of what occurred, Mr Mackey said the "departures from normal public sector procedures on recruitments, contracts and salaries would not be accepted in the local government sector".
It was decided by the board to reaffirm the importance of ensuring compliance with the code of practice for the governance of State bodies and public sector norms governing recruitment and remuneration. The minutes of the meeting record that all future personnel matters will be addressed by the agencies in a compliant manner. It was also noted that training would be arranged with the Institute of Public Administration on governance of boards.

Do people even read the article? Sounds like standard practice alright.

Liam McElligott, who was also chief executive of Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership (LEDP) -- was appointed as a project officer with a salary of €45,000. Both received five-year contracts.

How does anyone justify being in two places at once. Highly paid from two jobs and nothing to show for it.

A project officer, who does he answer to? Hes uncle!

As for Kenny and his niece, the whole goverment from top to bottom is rotten.

As for FG/LAB, get them out.

No one is accountable in our government.

If they want mass greed and corruption than they will pay the price of having a fcuked up country.
