we have to be the only country with this attitude. If i attempt to not drink when i'm out , or just sip pints and the lads get wind of it, they whinge for ages about it. i get serious stick over it
i dont tend to hold back too often though :P

It drives me nuts this attitude alright, some of the mates would take it as a personal insult if you ordered a coffee or would refuse to get it if you were in a round with them. Usually these are the biggest drinkers in the group. Its a very Irish thing which doesn't reflect well on us if you ask me

I haven't tried it yet but I hear the blue non -alco Erdinger is supposed to be close to the real thing and is new enough on the market to confuse them if you can dodge the rounds. Although I hate having to pander to them by buying a non alcoholic beer when I would perfer a coffee or a Lucozade *

    * I do enjoy my beer and wine on occasion also ;)

If you're going to condemn the guy who over-indulges on beers on a Saturday, then you should also condemn the guy who sneaks a few tasty treats and is carrying a few extra pounds, or the guy who looks outside and sees the rain and decides to skip the run, and the guy who watches the final episode of Desperate Housewives instead of doing his core exercises, and the guy who skips his long cycle in favour of playing in the park with his kids, and the guy who....

It's all about choices. Unless you're the guy who sacrifices everything (including family time) to be the best that they can be, I'd go easy on the guy who enjoys his beers on a Saturday night.

    Away with yee:D

Just remember i'm doing what your doing............but carrying 20 extra kg and they cheer army guys who do races with big back packs, meh mine is in the front:cool:

Once you pour the beer, no-one will know. Head is a bit frothy at first but you can put that down to it being a 'fancy beer.' Tastes nice too. Just get rid of the bottle asap. And make sure you ask it for clearly, otherwise the barman will shout: "A NON ALCOHOLIC is it?" Probably contains the same amount of carbs etc but avoids the hangover and public humiliation of sipping a lucozade.

And to think some people are doing the opposite, buying a coke and sneaking vodka into it.

No good for me, as a diabetic its full of sugar. Diet drinks or water are my only option BUT it helps when you don't give a $hit what others say.

You cannot compare pies, sweets and beers to family.

Avoiding eating crap and drinking are something that *you* can control and affect *only* *you*.
Absolutely true. But the guys at the top of their game make all sorts of sacrifices including family time. I mean if you are training 20+ hours per week, that level of commitment will impact family time, whether it's because you need to do 100+ mile spins on the bike, are just too tired to kick a ball, or have to eat a different diet to everyone else in the family. If you're travelling to IM events all over the world, you can't uproot the kids and take them with you.

That is true, its ok for one season for the average person to reach a goal but i couldn't do it every year. Time with the kids is too important.

I used to go out every week and binge drink to the max! Not anymore, it just doesn't have the same appeal. Now I'm lucky to get out 1 in six weeks, don't miss it though at all I must say and when I do get out I enjoy it so much more than before.

I can't do 1/2/3 drinks or I won't sleep, if I drink I'll need 5/6 to take the edge off so therefore I don't bother, no drink during the week either for me. Anyway training as I do, twice a day - morning and evening, that dictates what time I go to bed, no way I could make a habit of drinking and training. Now it does happen from time to time but not often. Like Bambaata I am competitive and aim high but that's just me.

I agree with the comment re age....actually more to do with your relationship status :) If I was single something tells me I wouldn't be half as competitive/dedicated :p

When I do get out I now drink Coors Light or Bud Light, hangover not half as bad. :)
