Did not get on with the original release of FF12 but Zodiac Age turns it into one of the best RPGs of all time. I finished all the superbosses.... IIRC you have to specialise in FF12, don't spread your license points too thinly, you can't pick everything. So just pick one role and then your secondary role and specialise in them. If you have anxiety over it you can find a list of top tier role combinations.

Have done a bit of googling and there's a huge amount of combinations. Impression I get is that game is balanced enough so, while your team may not be optimal, you don't really mess up your play through. Id say 2 of my 10 hours have been staring at licence boards. Going to get a balance of tank, DPS, and healer and should be good to plod ahead with story then. Soundtrack is awesome too.

Yeah I love anything by Hitoshi Sakimoto and the update to the OST is subtly done.

As for screwing yourself over with job combinations yuo shouldn't worry too much. I wasn't optimal either and completed all the craziest challenges. If you are used to FF5 and Tactics you should kind of know which jobs combinations will be good anyway.

About 10 hours into Star Wars - The JRPG; I mean FF XII Zodiac Age. Enjoying it so far. Tinkering with gambits a bit but only have limited options at this stage. Have 4 party members now so need to think about team balance. Been trying to figure out licence boards and they can be intimidating enough. Remember being the same with the skill tree layout in X and it all made sense after a while. Just discovered I can change boards whenever I want to so I'm going to experiment to bit tonight and see what works

Fantastic game, I had 50 hours put into about two years ago and got stuck and never went back to it, I must rectify that.

FF XVI looks like an extension of the mess that was XV. And Sony throwing money to 3rd parties for console exclusivity is not good either.

I'm glad they're finally moving away from that doll like look for the character models but the environmental art direction seem really drab from the trailer.

Eh I think Matsuno could be involved and if he is then I'm all in.

And other than the story FF15 was far from a mess. It was a lot of fun.

    .

What has you so excited for him being involved? I'm getting a zodiac age/FF14 vibe from it.

Have you not played FF Tactics or Tactics Ogre? The stories are absolutely incredible. FF Tactics is basically Game of Thrones but amazing and based on the same war.

He also worked on FF12 but that was a mess but you can see his influence until it went off the rails.

He has also worked on the FF14 expansions which I hear are excellent storywise.

So yeah, I love Matsuno and playing FF Tactics again on Android just reaffirms that I adore his storytelling and world building.

I haven't played either of them no but the FF14 expansion are raved about so must be good if he's involved.

I haven't played either of them

You need to sort that out, FF Tactics for me is the best that series has ever been. And Tactics Ogre is amazing but as a hypocrite I need to finish that myself!

Went back to it tonight and well I got past the part I was stuck on giruvegan waterways I think it was but now I'm stuck on Tyrant and can't get past him, I'm thinking I'll just restart, penelo, bash and fran are only between level 20 and 32  where as the other 3 are mid 40's! wtf! I think I messed up with the job class system, gave them all the wrong jobs, penelo has 896hp ffs! so ya starting again I think.

I'm not that far yet. Only finished the Dreadnought Leviathan (cool name). Did a bit of power levelling in Lhusu mines so everyone is around level 22. Penelo just rejoined party. I'm trying to switch out team so everyone is similar level. What are you playing on? You can reset license boards and jobs at the Clan Hall in Switch and Xbox versions, not sure about PS4.

PC but I have the switch version, what jobs/classes did you chose for each character? does the switch version run ok?

I was agonising over jobs and every forum you look at gives different combos. It seems its pretty hard to mess up though so I just picked one YouTube vid and stuck to what he was recommending below:

    Vaan - knight then Bushi
Balthier - Shikari then White Mage
    Fran - Monk then Foebreaker
Baash - Ulaan then Time mage
    Penelo - Redmage then Archer
    Ashe - Blackmage then Machinist

Have played mostly on TV but played a bit on handheld earlier and was fine. Havent any other versions to compare it to though.

If you are under levelled for ff12 then stop and do some hunts and side quests to level up. If you aren't doing them you will be under levelled and won't be keeping lace with the game and hit a brick wall eventually. The hunts are loads of fun. Basically take your time with the game. I critical pathed it the first time and didn't enjoy it.

Giruvan or whatever it's called is a bitch to get out of so Ya I'm definitely gonna start over, how do you mean critical path?

I'm doing the hunts as they pop up as Retro recommended. I feel over leveled at the moment but thats cos I did a bit of power leveling in Lhusu mines which is pretty early on and worth doing if you think you'll run into the same problems again with leveling later on. Trying to level the team evenly too so I'll have access to all of them as needed

Wasn't sure what to make of Gambit system at first but its actually pretty satisfying setting them up and seeing it work out in battle. Options are endless

    Just doing story missions.

Do the hunts as they pop up as long as you are able to beat them. You should have no issues then.

Originally when I critical pathed it I got horribly stuck at sections. I'd have to wait minutes for my team to heal up after fights and got stuck at bosses until I found abilities to cheese them and still had to grind for the final boss. It was miserable. This time I did the hunts and it was a joy

Gambit system is brilliant, it's like if/else statements in programming 😛

Just started Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore on Switch and it's very...Japanese. I'm liking the combat system although some of the attack animations are very quick and I don't get to see the full effect of my choices. The prologue was very easy however and I'm wondering is 'normal' difficulty too easy or does it ramp up as the game really gets going?

I'm maybe 27 hours in at this stage and the only real difficulty is the odd boss so far.

13 Sentinels arrived today and so far it is just the kind of weirdness I need now.

I am really enjoying it so far and the main point after a few hours I can make is that it is very well written and has a lot of nods to other sci-fi properties. It is very different from other Vanillaware games as its basically 80% visual novel and 20% tactical strategy game although I have not got far enough to give a good impression of the battle system yet.

Sure the usual tropes are there and the characters are somewhat cliched but it is not detracting from the game, it might actually be one of the very few games that has managed to have the above and still manage to work them into an excellent narrative.

Am I right in thinking FF12 has links to vagrant story? Shares the same world or something?
