Pygmy vs. Greater White toothed shrew

    Folks,

    Came across a dead shrew the other day, no camera with me so no photos, but wondering if anyone knows how to differentiate the two species?

    Unpigmented teeth, it's in the name :) you're looking at the enamel part.
    Also the White toothed are bigger, Pygmy are around 2 inches without the tail, the white toothed range from 6-9 cm without the tail.

    Dunno if that's a pygmy but that's what the iron deposits look like in the teeth.

    Our cats have brought in pygmy shrew (not sure which variety.. I can supply photo) on 3 occasions or more since we got them a few months back.
    In East Mayo, near Knock.
