Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's on RTE now. A PR consultant with a 1 million euro mortgage. Sums up the Celtic Tiger in a nutshell.

Though I don't advocate sticking our heads in the sand about issues, I really don't get why anyone would watch such misery porn.

To make yourself feel that your life isn't so bad after all.

It's misery porn or Blue Bloods. I'd prefer misery porn.

I feel sorry for the people in the unfinished estate, must be awful in one of those estates and the houses are worth next to nothing now...

I'm just waiting for the scene where Mark Wahlberg arrives and helps reclaim a plane from hijackers.

I'd love to live or have had grown up in a ghost estate. It's like having your very own lifesized post-war playground to run around in. Imagine the games of cops and robbers or hide and seek in there.

Unless you are that poor kid that got killed in one a few months ago.....
It's not actually that much fun at all, for anyone involved.

So debt caused this man to have a stroke?

Wouldn't't have been anything to do with his morbid obesity? Doesn't look like a guy who lives a healthy lifestyle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭68Murph68

No real questioning of why the people borrowed.

    Debt doesn't just happen.

Why do I get the feeling that we aren't seeing the full story in some of these cases?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 12,333 ✭✭✭✭JONJO THE MISER

And a lot of these people were right snobs during the boom, rubbing everyones else noses on how good there were, most of them deserve everything they get.

Not really sure that the whole auction side of things isn't more than a distraction from the main issue.

what's her earnings though, if he's earning 150k a year a 1m mortgage is not that big in reality...

Well this is her PR practice. I doubt very much she's making 150 grand a year from that from that.

So you think someone on 150k should get a 1mill mortgage?

You didn't work giving out mortgages for a bank in 2006 did you?

no, what I said was it's not that big in reality. It's not what you should aspire to but it's not all that bad if on such earnings. Bit different to having a 1m mortgage only earning 30k or 50k a year isn't it?
Possibly she has a partner with a reasonable level of income also, further lowering the ratio of income to mortgage.

But without actual earning figures the whole thing is irrelevant, she could be earning 500k a year in which case the mortgage is tiny, unlikely but possible.

Yeah,,I couldn't believe that...Pleading the poor mouth,,and yet anything she makes was going on "grinds for the girls".

Then there was the horses..Like...W.T.F. ?

Talking about getting your priorities really wrong. I don't think she was as bad off as she was letting on...It's just a case of she no longer has the lifestyle that she had.

It was a shame to see the couple on the ghost estate. At least you saw them have to buy clothes/toys in the charity shops.

But,,€120 shopping in Supervalu for 4 of them? We don't even spend that, and there are 6 of Us here.

I think that pretty much sums up most of RTE's shows. Consumed by grief junkies.
