Just wondering, any good suggestions for a bar to watch the Ireland games in the euro's in Brisbane? I think they are on at 5.45am Ozzie time (i stand corrected!). We are based near the racecourse in Brisbane so anywhere within reasonable walking distance would be ideal if anyone knows anywhere!

Pubs open at 5.45am in Brisbane?
your best bet would be one of the 6 or 7 bars in the Treasury Casino, they were normally the last place open many many moons ago, give them a call and check it out.

The games are on at 4:45am in QLD, NSW and VIC.

Yeah im in the same boat too...Has to be somewhere showing them live.. Be devastaing after waiting ten years not to see them

Does anyone know if they will be on Foxtel? If not, I'll have to hit the Crown Casino to get watching them.

I think Setanta are showing it actually. You can buy an internet subscription so that you can stream the matches fairly cheaply. Saves on installing Foxtel if you don't already have it.

Will the matches be on Foxtel though? We're getting Foxtel installed this afternoon, it would be pretty handy if the matches will be shown on it!

No, only Setanta have full coverage.

SBS are showing eight live games.

  • Registered Users Posts: 310 ✭✭csm

you can add setanta to your foxtel package and there's no minimum contract (at least there wasn't for me last year).

You also get the GAA, heineken cup and pro12 on setanta so if any of yas are into GAA or rugby it might be worth it.

If, like me, you don't care about gah or rugby back home and only want it for the Euros then you can get it for $50.97 ($16.99 first month, $16.99 initial registration fee and two-month minimum term). Everything else is a contract -

So there's a two month minimum then? Not too bad really.

Also they are very flexible on price if you try to leave. For example, for about 8 out of the last 12 months I've been paying $5 a month by pretending I'm not interested anymore and trying to cancel. Paid full price the rest of the time.

Do you know what games SBS are showing?

Two quarters, two semis and the final are five. Not sure of the rest.

I think setanta is showing every euro game so worth the price...saying that we still don't know if we'll be getting it. Have a friend who got it recently, soon to be my new best friend when he has me calling over at 4 in the morning :D

Hostels are a good place to watch matches at early hours in the morning

FUUUUU I was certain either ESPN or the fox sports channels would be showing full coverage. I have SBS also, but knowing our luck, they wont show any ireland games.

Dont want to have to resort to streaming the live TV on RTE player through a irish proxy, especially with my dodgy internet connection, but its at least an option I suppose.

Does that include a disconnection fee? If so that's pretty good. 50 dollars to see the whole Euros, assuming they have repeats aswell as the live games in the middle of the night. No interest in the gaa or any of that so happy to ditch Setanta once it's all over. Have foxtel already so not too much extra hassle to get Setanta.

Thanks for the reply's. Im actually just passing through Brisbane for a few weeks and it's my sister's house so I dont really want to ask her to buy a subscribtion! If anyone hear's of any bars or any place that are opening up for it let us know (dont care about drink, just want to see it!). The Irish bar's will probably be promoting it closer to the time anyway......hopefully!

If you are still stuck and don't want to venture out in the middle of the night just PM nearer the time ,I will give to a login to my own Proxy Server that uses UPC 50Mb/5Mb.
I set it up for family in Australia/USA , I am sure the games will be streamed on RTE Player as well as AERTV.IE

Looks like games will not be streamed live on internet, not from rte anyway

That's outside Ireland , Via a Proxy you would be viewing the RTE site as if you were inside the country and thus should be available,

    Do not subscribe I setanta!!

It's next to impossible to unsubscribe from them... I unsubbed 2 months ago and they said that I had to unsub a month in advance. Which I said fair enough. Jus got my second months charge since unsubbing..

They claimed I never called them to unsub. I had the exact same package mentioned above. 17 dollars a month. I only wanted it for two month for the latter stages of the FA cup.

On top of that you might aswell be watching it on a stream as the picture quality is terrible.

Infact Internet streams are far better most of the time.

Do not get setanta unless youre completely exhausted of every other possible option to watch the euros...

Have a read on Oz forums.. All complain about how terrible it is. If only I knew sooner.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭massdebater

The first game is on the Sunday night of the Public Holiday so the casino will be hit then. I'm living in St Kilda too. Could do with finding a good local spot to watch the other two group games (and the knockout games ;)).

It's gotta be the casino. Always great craic when the football is on

Cheers for the list. The Barkly and E&W are both walking distance from me so I'll probably go to one of them. The Barkly is closest so maybe there. Shít craic the way I gotta go to work after the games so no beer for me... :(

Casino is good for matches but not great.

Celtic Club.....I have my doubts about this place.

Was meant to be open early morning for some previous Ireland game and about 20 of us standing outside at 6am and nothing doing so will prob dodge the place. Its not great either.

E&W is good for the games.

Charles Dickens is the best spot in the city for watching football. Its downstairs on Collins St and Queen I think. Good spot though.

If you are staying in a hostel, Urban Central in Southbank shows all the games too. Its near the casino so better off gonig Cas, but if you wanna watch the game in a quieter atmosphere and nearer bed (should you be working), then Urban Central will defo be shwoign the whole tournament.
