    Hi

Right well it looks like there are several hundred mining jobs going if the Aussie Press is to be believed

I want to add a thread to the FAQ with a list of recruiters

    Example
    http://jobs.riotinto.com.au/

    So there's one any more?

I've been thinking about mining as I have to get a job at some stage (we came for my wifes job and I've being chillin) and I've heard conflicting stories both here, in the media and from locals about work in the mines.
Some say it's impossible to get into but then others say it ain't, I guess I'll just submit a few expressions of interest to see what turns up, I don't have any engineering qualifications etc but I used to have a excavator ticket but to be honest I'd try anything.
Probably have to get some sort of machinery ticket but I'd clean toilets if the money is as good as some make out.

Yeah seems to be "who" you know not what you know. A friend got me my job, I got my girlfriend a job. And when the company I work for wanted more workers they asked their current workers did they know of anyone looking for work, I told 3 friends and 2 flew up 3 days later, the other was unsuccessful because of a failed medical.

I would not be surprised if alot of fifo jobs were got through a friend or contact.

I went to the mining jobs expo in Burswood last Saturday.

The place was mobbed. I did bring some cards and stuff. If I can find them I will post details here.

As a diesel mechanic it was quite fun talking to them, we really are for once near the top of the food chain :D

I typed 'FIFO light' into seek. Now if they would take a WHVer and offer sponsorship that would be grand!

There is a mining, resources and energy sector on seek where you can check out all jobs per state. There is a cleaners/grounds maintenance going for $69k on a 2 and 1 roster, not exactly great money for almost 2/3 of the year.

These guys are big on 457 sponsorship. Looks like they are also interested in sponsoring people on WHV to 457 if they are eligible. This is also the company that has secured the controversial Roy Hill project and the right to import foreign workers to help build it. Not saying in anyway that they are the best company to work for but it is where the opportunities are.

If anyone is interested in non-construction mining work. These links may be of interest,

Me and the missus are considering applying for some hospitality work up near the mines, I know there is FIFO with this as well. The idea would be to do it for 6 months to a year to try and get the savings up. Don't know if I could hack it though..We both turned down sponsorship in the Margaret River as we didn't like the job we were doing, so I don't know if I'd actually enjoy the work up the mines no matter how much money I was given
