Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Support services? Probably not directly employed by the HSE so. Probably cleaning contractors or something.

More likely a porter I think. There would be nothing made of contractors fired. These are HSE staff so either old contract cleaners or Porters.

2,000 people in HR in the HSE

They should start firing themselves, that's a crazy amount

HR are the worst thing to happen to all establishments. All false smiles and fake personas and how are you and just turn around while I stick this knife in your back. Next please. All employees eligible. Except management of course.

No, I wasn't messing. Healthy people are just better. If nothing else, they work more days than people who take more sick days.

They are also better for their families because they are around to help out more. They are better for their lovers because no-one wants to have sex with Snottery McSickerson. They are better at working for the tax payer because sick days cost the same as working days. They are better for their football clubs because they miss less games. They are better for their dogs because they take them for more walks. They are better for their band because they need to call off less gigs.

I could go on and on and on. Healthy people are just better. It's really simple. In fact I can't think of any way that a sick person could be better than an healthy person.

I agree with you on this. Im a fairly healthy person and you want to know how many days I have been sick in the last 7 years? 2 day that's it, and that was only because of cold with mucus running out my nose. I wasn't in work at the time so I didn't need sick pay. It gets me when people who aren't really sick (abusing the system) or have a little pain headache call in sick. Docs are at fault too in this cause if a person goes to the doc and says " I wasn't feeling well today to go into work can you give me a cert" the doc will more than likely say yep no problem. No examination or anything just here's your cert, thanks for the 50 euro good luck now.

Why are there so many martyrs against taking sick leave?
If you're sick, you take sick leave
You're not better than someone else if you haven't taken a sick day in 10 years or whatever - just means you weren't that sick in all that time, or could cope with it better than others.

Yes some people get sick more than others but really? if you are out for the majority of the year, then you are too sick to be holding a position from someone who could work it.

The article said it was happening repeatedly and they followed the disciplinary action each time until it came to dismissal,

sick leave where you miss every monday/friday while there are photos of you online in the pub are quite common, and could also be a possibility here,

so common i believe that stats were 1 in 5 take mondays (or tuesday after a bank holiday) off regularly or miss Fridays here and there!

being hungover is not sick leave worthy.

either way its good to see the HSE getting rid of those abusing their public service positions.

Well there's 1100 people a day out sick, they basically made 2 of them redundant. I thnk they've quite a long way to go yet!

I wasn't talking about the article though.
I was talking about all the people in the thread who were patting themselves on the back for taking no or very few sick days.

Sounds like a legend to me.

The above is precisely the attitude that this country has too much of.

More like he sounds like a complete and utter waster who is afraid to do an honest days work for which he is paid for and would rather arse about in a position that thousands in Ireland would give their left nut for at the moment.

Why exactly is he a legend? I'm curious....

Having the sniffles is not a disability. I know at least one disabled person who rarely misses a days off work.

For you to equate disabled people with work-shy chancers is, quite frankly, disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Perhaps they need time off to save the turf, or get in the hay?

Undoubtedly there are a significant amount of slackers, but it applies across the board, both Public Sector and Private. I've worked in both and have seen it in both.

Where I work now (Public Service) we have our share as well but the vast majority are conscientious workers that don't abuse the system.

What people also forget is that these 'stats' are a sweeping statement and don't take into account long term illness which unfortunately is a fact of life. Using these stats, if I'm working with one other person and he's out sick for 6 months for a perfectly legitimate reason then our department average is 3 months - even though I haven't had a day off. But if they dig deeper then they don't get a headline !!

Another point is that I work shifts - 2 days on/off, 3 days on 2 off etc. If I'm out sick for 2 weeks that's roughly 7 working days - but my sick is counted as 14 days. Whilst in theory I am out for 14 days there is no 'lost' days for my due off days in any case. But they're still added to the stats and to my sick leave record...
