Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maternity Benefit - end of contract 23.5 weeks pregnant

    Hi

    I am due to finish my 1-year contract when I will be 23.5 weeks contract in 4 weeks time. I have told my employer I am pregnant (at 15 weeks) and I think it is unlikely they will extend my contract despite the fact that the project will continue. That is a seperate issue!

    Facts are:
    In full time employment since June 2007 (had a few months break between August 09 - May 07)
    Currently employed on a contract which is due to expire on 3rd July. No guarantee it will be extended.
    Currently pregnant with an estimated due date of 21st of Oct 2012. Therefore on 3/7 will be 23.5 weeks pregnant (just below the 24 week threshold).
    Employer would pay top up maternity leave if contract was extended beyond a year.

    My questions are:
    What are my entitlements if my contract is not extended beyond 3 July? In relation to social welfare (dole/job seekers) or maternity benefit
    If I am not entitled to maternity benefit will I get job seekers / dole (and if so how much and for how long?). Do I not have to be available to work?
    What should I do to maximise entitlement? Asking work to extend contract by a few days is not really an option. Seek another job (even for a few days or weeks) to build up stamps? If so will I get full amount when I go on Maternity Leave ( I would have been earning a salary which would have entitled me to full amount to date)
