Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So after ten long years we finally made it to a major international tournament. Lets hope that we can forget the state the country is in for two weeks.

We've been drawn in a very tough group with Spain, Italy and Croatia.

    Schedule is as folllows.

June 8th - Opening ceremony, followed by Poland V Greece KO @ 17:00

    Czech Rep v Russia @ 19:45

We kick off our campaign on Sunday 10th against Croatia. KO @ 19:45.

Next game is against current World and European champions Spain on Thurdsay the 14th @ 19:45.

Final group game sees us take on Trap's homeland Italy on Monday the 18th, also kicking off at 19:45.

Full schedule can be found on http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/index.html.

This thread is for a light hearted outlook on the finals. Serious discussion on the matches/players etc can be had over on the soccer forum. The usual After Hours rules apply for everything else.

Heres hoping we can make it out of the group stages and we can have a couple of evenings where the country goes a bit mad. I'll most likely watch most of the games at home with a slab of cans(€24 in Tesco) I hate watching football in pubs.

I'll also be looking forward to Uncle Woy getting the sack after Engerland get dumped out at the group stages and Fernando "Ladyboy" Torres failing to kick the ball in a straight line for the entire tournament.

    Will you be watching?

    Do you care?

Will Dunphy lose it on live tv again?

The women won't like the soaps being all over the place for two weeks.

Don't worry they won't have time for them seeing as they will be making round trips to the fridge to get me beer. Come on Ireland!

The problem with arsenal is that they always try to walk it in.

At Last a tournament ireland is in where the matches are on at a reasonable time. I have very little interest in soccer, but i'll jump on the bandwagon for a couple of weeks, if it means a bit of craic in the pubs.

I predict jingoistic and tbh xenophobic comments from the English media about the superiority of their team and their nation

England vs France, roll out the Agincourt and "band of brothers" and Henry V headlines already

I will constantly read about 1966

And when they fail I will read the same journalists rip the team and management to shreds with the most vicious criticism you'll ever read

The Irish media will hope for the best :)

Poland beat Ukraine in the final. England and Ireland share the flight home after failing to score a single goal between them.

Expect lots of tabloid headlines about German invasions of Poland and Ukraine.

    2/1 Terry gets sent off.
    5/4 Rooney gets sent off.

tbh after the legendary 90-94 era I gave up on Ireland, the FAI are all gangsters, the sports media are all c**ts and a lot of the players are just there for the ride/mitsubishi black diamonds/ghostwritten autobiographies.

Yet you won't see or hear any of that from
any normal English man. We expect to go
home after the group games. The team is poor, Hodgson had nothing to lose and should have taken an experimental squad but stuck with lampard, gerrard and terry.

    Still, remember 66?

Nah, me neither and I fcuking hate Geoff hurst.

"so what did you eat today Geoff?"

"well in 66 I had egg on toast before scoring a hat-trick to beat the Germans"

    "great Geoff, you're a cnut"

Got my bag pretty much packed already, counting down the days but dont rate our chances of getting out of the group. Croatia are better then people seem to think.

What was Wenger thinking bringing Walcott on that early?

Brazil have no chance of winning this one.

    My predictions:

    V. Croatia-lose 0-2
    v. Italy-lose 0-3
    v. Spain-lose 0-16

Mass suicide of football fans cleansing the gene pool. 25 years later we become a hyper-intelligent super race who control most of the world.

The Polish national team are to leave Ireland for the whole two weeks of the tournament I believe.

    Home?
    Pub?

    Other?

For the first time in years I'd like to see England perform well, not win it outright though. ;)

I'm a huge fan of Roy Hodgson, a pure gent of a man who deserves every good thing that comes his way.

You really need to get over this anti-English sentiment. And the having a go at their manager for having a slight speech impediment.

Looking forward to it. The last Euros were excellent, whereas the last World Cup was quite poor. There's a better standard of teams in the Euros as we don't have the whipping boys from other continents taking the places of better European teams. Even better with Ireland in it now :D

As for some reason my threads cannot be viewed until approved by modedaror in Soccer Section of boards, ( and they nevere appeared online so far) I decided to open thread here about Irish team in Poland.
From what I can see in Irish media - lot of information is simply missing.

    1) Official welcome in Sopot

    2)

    3) pictures

216 days since Italy last scored a goal or won a game.

No way should we fear them.

Spain should easily beat us, but you never know. A 0-0 bore fest is feasible. We are a very difficult team to break down. But if they score early it could be a bit of a blood bath.

Croatia, they are beatable and missing one of their best players in Olic.

Second place is certainly a possibility.

Ireland are at 80/1. Tempted to put down a score.....
