Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I heard the 3rd place playoff could be making a return in 2016 when the competition expands to 24 teams.

It'd make sense. And make more money for UEFA.

So, ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2012 final between Spain and Italy, Platini floated an option straight out of left field.
"We could have one country with 12 different host cities or we could have it in 12 or 13 cities all over Europe. It could even be 24 or 32 nations.

Some mad plan for Euro 2020.

There was never a 3rd place play off! Until 1996 there was only 8 teams in the tournament!

However, as said above, there prob will be one when it expands to 24 teams which is just plain wrong imo!

They had 3rd place play offs from the beginning of the tournament until 1980. Not sure why they stopped then (especially as at the beginning there were only four teams competing in the championships.

It kinda made sense to have a 3rd place play-off when there only 4 teams. Otherwise it was a long way to travel for just one game.

So, who are you rooting for tonight?

I kind of want Italy to win, being the underdogs and all.

I suppose, never thought of it like that.

Hope Italy do it but really hope we have a game as good as their earlier encounter. Think it might be nervy cagey affair tho. I think it may go to penos

I love how into the national anthem Buffon gets.

Forza Italia - hope they do it, have played well all tournament. Pirlo deserves a winner's medal.

Can't stand the smugness of the Spaniards now and their "false 9" formation.

Recreated a goal been scored with interpretative dance - the kids joined together to make a massive boot and face etc., over head kick and all very fancy

    No strikers for Spain.

It's so weird the formation, I'd say Torres, Negredo and Llorente's confidence must be dented, "He'd rather play no strikers than play me" :o

Nonsense. Italy are a fine side and, if anything, upfront is where they're weakest.

    Awful dive by Balotelli.

Oh come on, anyone can park the bus, even Ireland managed it fairly well until we got to the finals. The difference is when Italy hoof the ball upfield they have Balotelli and Pirlo to make things happen. At least now they have conceded they will be forced to play some football.

They've played plenty of football already. Against Spain in the opening game, and against Germany and England they looked potent playing good football.

Pirlo and De Rossi have been fantastic in the middle, it hasn't been all hoofball. Pirlo drops deep to collect the ball and spary it around the pitch, he doesn't wait upfield to collect long balls as you suggest.

They've rightly been earning plaudits for their approach during this tournament

Everyone said Italy would do crap and not get out of the groups. And here they are in the final. They're a good side. Not playing their best tonight unfortunately but they are a good side.

How many goals has silva scored? Was that his 2nd or 3rd?

    Second.

Who gets the golden boot if five players finish on three goals? The one with the most assists?

I think so, Muller won it in the World Cup despite it being a 4 way tie!

If it's a bookies question you will get a 5th of your stake on the bet if it's a 5 way tie
