I have to say you've gotten me fairly excited about this game now, I absolutely loved witcher 3 but didn't think this game was going to be as big a deal as that

Witcher spoiled me in relation to open world games. Everything else after that was a pale comparison, as the whole thing was built with so much love and detail. Red Dead came verrry close though.

Like the latest trailer has what appears to be a major story spoiler but I'd imagine that is only 1 of the many possible outcomes depending on your actions and choices.

Do many people have the same view?

What kind of longevity will it have? Online play like GTA that people are still playing years later? Or more like last of us where once your finished the story then there's not much keeping you there?

I honestly don't think I've ever looked forward to game as much as this in my life.
I played the Tabletop version of this as a kid and always wanted a computer game version. When I saw the first trailer it looked pretty much identical to how I had it visualised in my head which sent my hype levels into the stratosphere :D

Can't wait to immerse myself in this world they're making, looks incredible.

I'm blue in the face telling gamers I know to play W3.

Pretty sure they said games are downgraded and sometimes videos are touched up before/after E3.....but the gamerz were having none of it and went with lying to complete their outrage.

Its the best game of its type, better than any Zelda!

Witcher 3 is a great game, but Breath of the Wild has it beat for exploration/world traversal.

In W3 I ended up installing mods to bypass weight limit & add insta-teleports as I was getting bored/frustrated.
BotW is always "oh damn, I wonder what's over that hill/mountain? And what fun way can I get there"?

IGN posted a play by play of the gameplay down to journos, huge amount of info about gameplay and some story bits like Keanu's character Johnny.

I only read a bit, will wait to watch it when they decide to release it.

I picked the bones clean of W3, never got bored. Got to stage where I was hunting down the hidden monsters for fun. Easily 100+ hours and every mission done.

Have BOTW since December, finished maybe 5% of it.

    It's a nice theoretical though.

There's times in the witcher where I just end of murderising everyone when I could probably subdue them non-lethally given the option.

There's a beautiful tragedy when you're left with no choice but to kill, but it'd be best if that emerges from gameplay rather than being something you're forced to do because your only interaction offered is via the pointy end of a sword.

Yeah I'm not a fan of passive runs or anything but it's just the fact that it's possible that's an exciting thing because of the possibilities with playthroughs and knowing that whenever you're killing someone it could've been avoided, which gives a lot more weight and enjoyment to games that allow it imo.

Too bad they didn't extend this to cybernetic enhancements. They've said that there's no way to play the game 100% human, you have to get some basic implants. I hope they just mean the visor and communications systems for HUD & quest taking because I'm dead set on playing with nothing that could assist me in combat or manipulating NPCs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,839 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I agree, the fact you can do a passive run means they went to an awful lot of trouble to give the player choice. I like passive runs, talking my way out of things or non lethal takedowns. I felt the last Deus ex game favoured using weapons as the passive run was penalised in a way and I found going guns blazing very boring. Quit that game very early on.

I might even pick it up again to give another go.

As for the cybernetic enhancement. I read a main plot point has you implanted with a chip against your will that a lot of people want. I'd say a human run is out of the question. One other bit is people talking in different languages and you can get an implant that displays subtitles in your vision to understand what they're saying so the cybernetics do beyond swords for arms.

Yeah I understand there's lots of utility and logistics related enhancements which are cool and I definitely want to try that because I think/hope netrunning & hacking are going to be huge aspects and almost games in and of themselves. I still wanted a human run though. Against all odds so to speak. I played Dishonored with no powers.

I thought Keanu might just pop up every now and again but Devs confirmed he has 2nd most amount of lines in the game, 15 days recording worth.

Literally finding offence where there is none... I wouldn't even have noticed this ad, set in a dystopian future where corporate greed rules the world and people are taken advantage of due to their overuse of body mods, but obviously there are people out there who live to find offence: Cyberpunk 2077 art criticized as transphobic.

    Jesus wept.

A group that make up less than 1% of the population are offended by a ****ing advertising board in a video game....yeah forgive me if I couldn't give less of a ****.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,839 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Saw that article, made zoom in on the ad and only then noticed the huge lad on your wan. Made me chuckle. I'm so so glad it didn't make me think 'hey, that trans person is being sexualised, I need to complain to someone'

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,390 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

The idiots complaining about that are the same ones that'd be moaning if trans characters weren't featured at all. The perpetually offended demographic is one best left ignored online and in real life, there are some valid things to be upset and offended about, and this isn't even close.

Should also be taken into account that this is one person who pointed this out, and websites love to make articles about one tweet and claim there's huge outrage over something.

Surely depicting a future where something like that has become so normalised it's on a billboard would be the opposite of transphobic.

I was wondering why Eurogamer had a piece today about having "A conversation with the artist behind that Cyberpunk 2077 poster" alright.

Seems both they and Polygon have sat down with the Art Director of the project, who also happens to be in charge of in-game media, to discuss it. The resulting conversations are actually pretty interesting and definitely benefit from having come from the actual artist rather than via a PR or marketing mouthpiece. Since their release, the debate around the ad in question has thankfully shifted for many too, becoming somewhat less, shall we say, accusatory.

It's almost like context is important.

While I agree with you, have a quick search on Twitter and you'll see there's more than one who's outraged by it, not on a huge scale but there are still a few. Regardless of the quantity, best left ignored IMO.

The argument being made comes from a ridiculous angle too, there are surely genuine transphobes out there who could be targeted in place of an art designer making a progressive point that they've explained really well. Just my two cents, I'd be more interested to hear a few opinions from transgender people in response to that quote from the art designer justifying the image.
