I also came across this useful list of 18 (More) Services to Convert Websites For Mobile Devices on Hongkiat which ties nicely in with this topic on mobile sites

Not designed to make mobile apps, but to make Web based mobile app mock-ups. Another example of such a platform is MobiOne Studio.

They're very useful for rapid prototyping, or if you need to show that you 'have something' more than a PowerPoint presentation to a VC, but at the end of the day, they're quite limited and largely smoke and mirrors.

I've seen this one before, and it does look interesting. However, there are two caveats; it's designed really only to create 'brochureware' apps, so anything more clever and you're out of luck, and it's for Android only.

Nice list, but again none of those produce actual apps - they're all designed to produce mobile friendly sites.

This does actually create real apps, but again there are caveats. Firstly, it's Android only (not surprising, considering it was Google's baby). Secondly, while it's pretty versatile, it still has serious limitations in what you can do with it.

Instead, if people are looking at easier ways to create actual apps, you might look at some of the multi-platform frameworks out there. One is Appcelerator Titanium, which allows you to build apps using HTML and JavaScript.
