My girlfriend's on the bus and she says it's been diverted because of a bomb scare in North Strand. Anyone got any news on where, can't find anything online...

EDIT: Twitter is saying it's a package outside Mary Lou's campaign office.

Hope so. But "always happening" I have to disagree with, when was the last scare?

Its happening quite a lot, the bomb squad have been called out 91 times this year and have dealt with 32 viable devices.

always happening - my brother used to do motor bike escort for the bomb squad occassionaly. He hated big sporting weekends, cos they would be running around the city all night

There was one weekend where he was 6 different locations in 1 night.

Just cause you dont hear it on the radio doesnt mean it is not happening

think it's gas when you see pic like this, its the same in the news papers - all the guards standing around twiddling their thumbs

get the bomb squad and get it sorted, it is really necessary for 3 guards to be there on their motorbikes.

Traffic control maybe, keeping idiots from standing beside the soldier working on the bomb ?

and they need 4 guards and 3 motorbikes for that ?
And I can grantee there is probably more standing around there that aren't in the pic

Edit : they don't look like they are doing very much "controlling"

as irishbird said "motor bike escort for the bomb squad"
they would have to wait around for them while they work on the device

Those guards are the escort bikes for the bomb squad. They are very necessary. Try getting through rush hour traffic from rathmines to god knows where in the city, quickly without them

the motorbike are usually from the Army. they are used to stop traffic and block off roads and side streets.

also they are used as fast escorts to and from scenes to block traffic and side roads as the squad can move fast through a busy city

They put graffiti on her office, sell outs, touts that type of thing and there was a small hoax device.

The 150 bus was diverted in crumlin two days ago because the bomb squad were outside a house there. Didn't hear anything on the news though

They are guards. Soldiers cant stop traffic without Gardai to the best of my knowledge

Yes, the motorcycle escort is essential for the bomb squad to get from their base to the incident site as fast as possible. These bikes are used as traffic control at junctions / traffic lights etc. A minimum of 3 is needed.

The bikes are for traffic control, the bomb squad has an armed military escort to form a perimeter around the incident site.

Incorrect, the bikes are GS NOT military.

The Gardai did a good job keeping every wanderer from the site. All while putting up with moron drivers who had to stick their oar in about being diverted.
