    hey,

just a general question... the majority of apartment lets seem to be 1 year contracts.... how open to 6 month contracts are letters?... has anyone managed to get a 6 monthly contract?

Depends on their situation. Most landlords want 1 year minimum and if the place is in high demand they will get it, but if the place has been vacant for a while then they may be more open to the idea of just getting somoene in.

One thing you could suggest would be a 1 year contract with a break clause. This means that if after 6 months (or whatever agreed time) either party can terminate the lease. Its effectively a 6 month contract, but some landlords seem more open to the idea than they would to a 6 month lease.

You would expect to pay more for a 6 month lease than for a one year lease as the landlord has more expenses and twice the chance of having a void period in the year.
