€800 gaming pc build (w/o monitor)

1. What is your budget? €800 quid. Can go over it if it is really worth it.

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Mainly gaming -BF3, Arma, Flight sim

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

5. Do you need a monitor? No. Will use the TV via HDMI(will buy proper screen once i start my job)

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? i suppose a card reader would be useful

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? yes

8. How can you pay? Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser all three

9. When are you purchasing? hopefully within the next two weeks

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? I hope to pay the 20 quid on HWVS for them to build it.


So hoping to buy this in the next two weeks and ideas would be highly appreciated. Have only owned laptops and netbooks so going to try and get a solid PC that will last a few years hopefully. Thank you!

You don't need any of those heatsinks or anything. The cheaper the better

Much more satisfying to unpack all the components individually! I don't think hwvs will fit an aftermarket heat sink like that either as it could damage the mainboard during transit.

I would recommend against the BitFenix Merc Alpha (the cheaper case option). I have one and it is very light and very prone to vibrations. Was pretty unbearable having a hdd actually mounted to the bay so had to suspend it using elastic in a 5.25" bay.

I would also spend the extra ten euro or so and go for the 550W PSU for the extra overhead it would give when it comes to adding drives etc.

You could probably go for a cheaper GPU too depending on what resolution monitor you eventually plan on getting. Id stick with something like that though and then get a nice 27" as described here.

You may also need a dvd drive although they are less important now some annoying games still require a disc (Arkham City comes to mind).

Just dragging this back up to get an opinion or two. Going to order this by tonight so just want to ask what ye think about the motherboard and PSU and if they are recommended.
Had some things in the original setup that ran out of stock so had to make a few changes.

Had been thinking about that PSU alright but a friend on here showed me an article on AMD that suggested having a PSU of 500w or more to work with the 7850 graphics cards.

It doesn't need a 500 watt PSU, have a look at some reviews. Your system won't draw more than 300 watts under maximum load, so a 620 watt is total overkill.
