Just spotted a bit of blue sky here in Wexford after having over 24 hours of rain, the forecast from Sky News isn't good for this part of the country during the week with Wednesday being the best day.

Approx 90mm here in 24 hour period from 2.00pm Sat June 2 to 2.00pm Sun Jun 3. Located a few miles south of Nenagh in North Tipp.
Interestingly, Su Campu mentioned a triple point yesterday which would be east of Limerick City and which was likely to get the most rain. We're approx 20 miles E/NE of Limerick City.
Su, I tip my hat to you, sir !!

Just to keep on record. Radar animation for period 0000 UTC Sat 2nd June through to 1600 UTC today. Front can be seen stalling W/E along a line between Clare/Limerick & Louth/Dublin during the small hours before it was dragged back SE'wards later. (image is small due to file size but link to full size animation at the bottom of the sequence. May take a while to load in both cases)

Thanks Delw :) although it was called well beforehand by MT, met.ie and a good few others here on the forum. I just opened the thread to focus attention on it and for others to discuss any possible outcomes. I think synoptically, it was a very unusual set up. Normally we have cool ridge followed by warm front which in turn is followed by cold polars! In this case we had a warm humid sector being confronted by two differing polar air masses from two completely different directions (SW & N/NE).

I think overall, most of the model outputs did a good job of getting the specifics right on this particular event as did calls from others mentioned above. :)
True DE,so thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge in these threads,as always it's much appreciated

Great image from DeepE. With my very laymans knowledge this makes perfect sense to me.

And to think that those feckers in Donegal rejected the recent referendum but still got the best of weather. No justice at all !!!

If this had been winter the country would have been covered in white, all except for the Donegal postman !!

It's not too bad today in sheltered areas while the sun is out (Meath) :)

Travelling to Mayo tonight for the week, looks like it's going to be a wet one out there.

I got 26.0 mm here in Celbridge and Dun Laoghaire harbour received 30 mm, so with your 37 mm there was a wide variation within short distances, as we said there might be. The key time was from 1-7 am, when Casement received 31 mm versus 20 mm for Dublin Airport. The radar does show a probable orographically enhanced linear echo feature around southern Dublin, with intensity falling off sharply further north, so a mile or two would make a big difference. It will be interesting to see tomorrow how much fell at Dunsany and the Pheonix Park for this period.

I see, I remember south Dublin got a lot more snow than the northside in December 2010 for the same reason.
edit: 31mm at the Phoenix Park for June 2-3.

Looks like the next batch of rain will be hitting the SW counties by eveing time, as per MTC's daily forecast

Wed night and Thursday look severe as regards rainfall.
Could be quite a bit of flooding if that comes off as presently modelled
5/6 inches of rain looks quite possible as a tally for the week!

Shannon 46mm already and average is 70mm in June.
Casement 38mm already and average is 63mm in June.
Malin 0mm so far and the average is 77mm in June.
Belmullet 10mm to date and average is 72mm in June
Cork Airport 25mm so far and the average is 81mm in June

Bright and sunny all day again, just clouding over now. Turned out to be a great weekend here

Aside from some overnight rain last Thursday its been totally dry now since the 18th of May! Looks like the whole country is facing a bit of a washout this week though

Dunsany, Co. Meath (20 km northwest of Dublin Airport) received 20.3 mm, so it would agree with a sharp north-south rainfall gradient alright.
