    5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes/No] yes

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [19'/20'/22'/24'/etc.] 22"

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.] [Yes/No]

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Limerick, dont know how to build so would need it builtand can collect.

Are you sure you need 16gb of ram? When just browsing the web and maybe listening to music, I use 2gb at the very very very most. You only start to need anything more than 4gb, I would suggest 8 for your build. if you're doing video editing or something like that.

What exactly will you be doing on the computer?
There is no way i5/i7 or even i3 is a must for word processing, email, FB and other home things, can you elaborate? There is of course a need for such processors if you'll be doing intense video editing or photoshop, AutoCAD etc.

Don't buy a Dell; they're overpriced non-upgradeable bundles of crap and Dell's customer support is shocking. Have a look at this build:

    Item|Price
    LiteOn iHAS124-19 schwarz SATA|€18.89
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€35.93
    Antec BasiQ VP350|€33.98
    Intel Pentium G860 Box, LGA1155|€82.75
    ASRock H61M/U3S3 (B3), Sockel 1155, mATX|€55.07
FRACTAL DESIGN Gehäuse Core 1000 black|€34.36
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version Englisch|€85.34
Samsung SSD 830 256GB SATA II Paper Box|€212.09
    Rechner - Zusammenbau|€20.00
    Software-Installation|€34.99
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€632.39

The last two pieces are for them to build it for you and install everything. That's form a German website called Hardwareversand.de, they only take bank transfer and PayPal at 3%. I don't really have time now but I can imagine a similarly specced Dell would set you back €1200+.

Hi Eboggles, thanks for that, I download films, watching movies online, a small big of photoshop and video editing but only once in a blue moon, nothing intense, Im going back to college next year to learn a bit of programming such as Python or Javascript, thats about it,

so would the i5 and 8gb ram do the job. no not going to touch a Dell after hearing the report on here.

also your spec above would that cover what I want and if I get the computer is it just a matter of turning it on,

also what monitor would you recommend, and a 500gb h/d

    thanks very much

    • I'd get a better case, like the Bitfenix Shinobi.
    • That motherboard is grand.
    • Special Item - Returned item. Don't bother, just get the retail version.

For photoshop you might need something like an i5, get the i5-3450.

The graphics card would be better I'd say than the HD3000 graphics, even though it's quite old.

Is there any reason you're getting that monitor? I'm not bashing it but if you're looking for a 22 inch there's ones around the €100 mark, and if you're looking to spend €172 there's better models that are larger.

That Dell AX510, what is it exactly? I presume it's some sort of speaker, for €25 euro you could pick up a logitech 2.1 system that would perform better than the Dell, or at least I think it would.

Yes you can use that HDD as it is SATA, but the DVD drive you mentioned isn't SATA, so you might as well just get a new one.

Get a U2312M for around the same price, much better monitor.

You mentioned that you were going back to college...
You can get windows for cheaper from software4students.ie
Yes, you can use an upgrade edition on a blank drive.

Also, how about getting a slightly more compact system to go with the mATX motherboard?

Or a Z77 board for a bit more upgradability isn't vastly more expensive -
