Zamano blocks Premium Text consumer protection regulations in High Court

    Zamano got the High Court to block key parts of the new Premium Text regulations due to come into force on 05 June.

    As Zamano watch this forum I will summarise the net effects of the block.

    Key measures blocked for now are.

    1. Explicit Opt In Agreement confirmation ( you must text AGREE back to a text stating ALL the charges BEFORE Zamano can take your money. For the present you need not AGREE to the charges by text.

    2. Proper advertising standards on TV/in the Press stating ALL the charges you will incur.

    3. Reverse billed unsolicited virtual text protection.

    Until the full package of measures is implemented you are at serious risk of having your money taken by reverse billing even though you did not knowingly agree to it.

    Do not send ANY premium text message     ( to a 5xxxx number) to ANY competition whatsoever run by any Premium Text operator until these consumer protection measures are FULLY in place.

    Doing so could literally cost you €100s and YOU CANNOT stop them from taking your money and your Mobile Phone operator WILL NOT stop them either.
