Ok so who is up for a spin next week and what evening suits best. I'm recomending Tuesday, kick it off at McDonalds Driver thru Blanch Centre about 7pm and aim for about 70k.

I think the following have all shown interest in this tread so far, so if it suits any of you, or anyone else for that matter, let us know and of course we can tailor the spin to suit everyone, so make your feelings known!

Yeah I'm up for tuesday, Monday night will be spent in the pub IF we get a result out of Spain tonight which is very unlikely.

Monday night will be spent in the Pub regardless of tonight! Got my Packie Bonnar Italia 90 (so tight it would pass for a cycling) jersey on today to bring back the good aul memories!

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, I'm a D15'er but my night off is usually Wednesday for running but I may be able to get both off occasionally.

Route for tomorrow, try and kick it off at 7pm McDonalds Driver through
It's 75k, but we can cut it short or whatever you fancy, so let me know who is coming and any changes you propose

Oh no, another young fella out to shame me  he might have to carry a few lead weights to slow him down!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

Ill join you all in Ballycoolin/Tyrrelstown, can I suggest heading from Ballycoolin to Tyrrelstown then across to the old N2, its a much better road surface and I'm not just saying that cause I'm in Tyrrelstown :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

LOL. Yeah, it's a much better surface, I go that way too (and not because I'm in Tyrrelstown either), went up the Kilshane Road once and it's in a real bad state.

But then again, who cares what I say, I probably won't be making tomorrow either unfortunately.

Lead the way, I don't know much around there but you are right, that road is dire!

He'll probably shame us all. He is big into the GAA plays for the Peregrines :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

So what's the plan later? I will meet you guys at the roundabout at Tyrrelstown where the shops and hotel are. We can head from there out towards the N3 if that's cool?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭t'bear

N2?, cross the N3 at Dunshaughlin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,547 ✭✭✭funkyjebus

Up for this as well. So to confirm, we are meeting at the McDonalds in Blanch at 7pm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

Sorry I meant we head from Tyrrelstown across to the old Ashbourne road (N2) then follow Steve's route from there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,128 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Well guys, seem to have a nice little group forming here.

So start at McDonalds Drive thru 7pm with

    stevieob
    funkyjebus
    jagian
    jagian's nephew
    t'bear

then pick up at Tyrellstown (superquinn/lidl roundabout) probably about 7.15
    vinyljunkie

This is the route - - have I got the tyrellstown bit right Vynaljunkie?
It gives the option to jump off at Dunboyne for anyone who might be under time constraints, or if it starts lashing again like Saturday - though I think we will be ok looking at the forcast

Yep, looks good. See you all there.

Funky and Steve dish out the abuse alright, but was well happy with the avg speed. Was great to be out with a bunch who pull you along.

I skipped the Big Mac meal though Steve - but was very tempted!

In fairness I have never gone anything like that fast, it was all Funkys doing, did you see how he took the mickey out of us going up by the Anglers Rest!

It was only a big bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes for me, but I would have murdered a Micky D's!

Endomondo shows me at 72.8k in 2:42.14, avg just 27km.

Funky complained that the hill always kills him.....yeah right! What hill?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

Yeah good spin lads, I dropped off coming into Clonee and went the long way from there finished up at 45km with an average of 28km/h according to Strava.

weather not looking great for the next few days and TBH I had my fill of it last Saturday. No enjoyment in cycling in the pizzings of rain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭t'bear

I am up for the next spin out, like Steve, I spent two hours getting home one time and was downright miserable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭jaqian

Im up for a spin Tuesday sans the nephew :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

I'm not free the weekend but would be well up for another spin one of the evenings.

The weather is pretty much saying it is going to be raining for most of this evening so I'm going to play it by ear I think for tonight. If it is ok, maybe just do a short spin of 40-50k (or even to keep it simple, do a few laps of the Phoenix Park - any opinions on this?)

If it is not raining, I would be up for going over the Sally Gap on either Saturday or Sunday morning, but would rather go early as it is such a long spin, about 90k, so would really want to be meeting (the Aras the Phoenix Park?) probably about 9. If we go, and the rain comes, well then we can always cut it short.

I am also most likely going to be doing a mountain spin on Tuesday next, but it will be starting in town after work, 4ish, where I am meeting a friend. Might be a bit early for some of you, but again because of the distance, would rather head off as early as possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

Keep me in the loop if you are going for a spin tonight. Id be well up for it.

Yeah, weather looks crap for the next few days, but if we time it right it should be fine.

Tomorrow evening looks ok for a short one, but I'd be up for going over the gap on either Saturday or Sunday. Sunday works better for me (especially of we do a short one on Friday), but Saturday looks the best weather wise, 9 @ Aras either day is fine by me.
