Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Great Save by Casillas, but a terrible miss in fairness.

    Teams:
Spain (4-3-3): Casillas; Arbeloa, Albiol, Sergio Ramos, Alba; Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Xavi; Cazorla, Silva, Negredo
Subs: Valdes, Reina, Juanfran, Pique, Iniesta, Cesc, Navas, Pedro, Torres, Llorente, Mata, Martinez

China(4-2-3-1): Zeng; Sun, Zhao, Zhang, Feng; Zhao, Hao, Zheng, Yu Hai, Quin; Gao

Spain head coach Vicente del Bosque has named a strong line-up as the current world and European champions welcome China to the Estadio Olimpico in Sevilla for their last warm-up friendly before Euro 2012.

Alvaro Negredo is the man chosen this evening to lead the line for Spain, with Santiago Cazorla and David Silva flanking the Sevilla striker from the wings.

Apart from the central striker role, Del Bosque has named a side that will be close to the preferred starting XI for the Euros, with Xavi, Busquets, and Xabi Alonso all featuring in midfield. The only current injury concern for Spain is that Cesc Fabregas will miss the match with a thigh injury, which may keep him from featuring in the opening match of the championships against Italy.

China come to Europe with a Spanish legend as their head coach. Jose Antonio Camacho is currently in charge of the Asian nation and was the man who handed Iker Casillas his Spain debut. Camacho fields China in a 4-2-3-1 formation this evening.

If China can get 2 goals up before the bench is used by Spain they might get a draw :)

Peng shouldn't be near the squad IMO, he really needs to step up his game, was caught out in possession far too often throughout qualifying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 884 ✭✭✭acalmenvoy

Save from Silva, Spain on top now, no Chinese shot in second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,949 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

My commentator keeps saying, "and now a new save" every time the Chinese keeper makes a save.

Feel we will have a chance against Spain, could be wrong, but they did not look good tonite.

    Spain 1 China 0. FT

Spain cut China open in the second half. They hit the post twice and met a keeper who was having a super game.

I wouldn't be very confident of us getting a result against them at all.

We would have put 4 or 5 past China at least

Agreed, but they were very bad first half, but for Casillas China would be 3 up, Spain are not Barcelona, did you see the bad crosses from Arbeloa, Spain's time is over, we've got a great chance of getting out of the group.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,949 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Yeah China put the game to them in the first half alright. I wouldn't expect them to line up without Pique in the back 4 like they did today. If Iniesta started, China wouldn't have seen half of the ball they did in the first half. That will be the case with us too. We're going to have to be ultra clinical against them to have a chance.
Spain won't even try and attempt a crossing game against us. We're far more dominant in the air and they know it.

    Spain are done.
    DONE.

IIRC Spain mixed in a bit of crossing in their game vs England towards the end, in particular after Torres came on as sub.

del Bosque shouldn't bother playing Alonso against us. Barça trio in midfield, two natural wide men and whoever they want as striker. You can imagine what kind of game it's going to be, so they should be looking to draw and stretch from the start. Alonso will play beside Busquets for the sake of a consistent eleven, though, even if he won't offer a lot. Meh.

I think he'll play six at the back. They won't know how to deal with the attacking threat of McGeady, Keane, Long, Duff and the battering ram Richard Dunne. They're crapping themselves at the thought of coming up against one of the greatest midfield pairings in world football. Plus, the mighty Paul McShane. In fact, Lionel Messi has been quoted as saying that "I quiver in my boots and shiver in my spine at the thought coming up against 'The Ginger Beckenbauer'"
