Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Out of all the eastern european nations that immigrate to the Ireland/UK/western europe, I hear lots of Poles, Latvians, Lithuanians, Slovaks, Hungarians, Bulgarians, Romanians etc but I don't hear many Czech's??

Are they travel shy or something or do they just not like Ireland?

    We don't accept Czechs here.

They're invisible most of the time. You only see them when you drink absinthe or when you watch porn.

    BTW, Bohemians are hot.

    They are central european.

Why does nobody from Croatia ever come to Ireland? Because Croatia doesn't exist.

The Czech Republic is actually doing comparatively well, they simply don't need to leave.

But most people just come to Ireland because its so great, not because they HAVE to ;)

You should 'check out' the Czech Inn in Temple Bar. You'll find plenty of Czechs are other nationalities there.

Because they are clever enough to have work at home - I know a fair few and have friends I've been over to visit(really liked it there and found the people to be smart-very like Germany). Every corner you drive around, even in the 4rse of nowhere has factories producing goods for export, it's like a little, pretty Japan. Women are awesome too. Oh, and it's way nicer there than here.

You often hear it banded about: this country's women are the hottest, that country's women are the hottest.

However FYI, Czech chicks ARE the hottest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,128 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2

They have hot weather, hot chicks and good beer.

Ireland has one of the above.

I know a few. Sure they have their own bar (The Czech inn) in Temple bar.

They do have some mighty fine looking women in Prague I must say.

Actually come to think of it, I note a strong correlation between ex-communist countries and beautiful women.

Any chance we could get a bit of communism in Ireland

There are thousands of them trapped in bank vaults after they accidentally got lodged.

I've met quite a few of them living here and I have a close friend who's Czech who's been living here for years and another who moved back home (can't blame her-it sounds much nicer in many ways than here!). I find them to be quite different from some of their Eastern European neighbours like the Poles. And that's all I'll say about that :pac:

I really like them and find them to be smart, cultured, open and erudite. Quite temperamental and feisty though-especially the women! they don't beat around the bush and tend to be very direct, which I like. At least you always know where you are with them.

And it's not just Czech women who are hot, the men I've met were usually tall and handsome. :)

The Czech republic is technically Central Europe, despite having a slavic language which is why it get lumpped in with Poland et al.

However, the economy is booming. Education is accessible to those who want to learn and the general level of education is quite good, while at the same time having a low wage economy. Which means a lot of software and IT companies come here and hire programmers, testers, admins, Network engineers etc (for half nothing). They build the stuff, the money goes to the US, via Cork in most cases, everyone is happy.

Also the beer. is cheap. And when I say cheap I mean cheap. In Tesco, you can get 10 bottles of good beer for about 100 Czech crowns, which is 4 euros. But wait! If you bring the beer bottles to the bottle bank, you get 3 crowns per bottls back, which means overall your 10 bottles of beer cost 70 crowns which is less than 3 euros. And this is good beer. You can get 10 bottles of the Czech equivalent of Dutch Gold for less than 2 euros.

And dont get me started on Mislovice ;)

Aren't the average workers wages pretty stagnant, whilst inflation is rising steadily?

The average wage is what, 20,000(7-800 euro) czk per month?

I'm here three years and have not noticed the inflation. And define average worker. All the people I know(and work with), are earning 1.5 to 2 times that figure. Some of them more.

In fairness, most of these countries are Central Europe. Eastern Europe is mostly former Soviet Union republics. It's just that most of the time people can't be bothered to distinguish between anything more than Western vs Eastern :)

There were loads of Czech's in Ireland from 2004 until 2010 but the vast majority that I know left to go back home as their own economy started to really take off over the last couple of years.

Like most people have mentioned already, the Czech Rep is a stunningly beautiful country with ridiculously cheap beer and absolutely gorgeous women.

Don't worry though, we still have lots of Slovaks here as their economy isn't as strong as their neighbors (thank you Mr Euro) so at least we can be grateful for that......for the moment anyway.

One of the Czech guys that I knew transferred from Dell in Dublin back to Prague a few years ago and now he is earning approximately the same salary as he was here. To me that's crazy as the cost of living is probably more then double in Dublin then it is in Prague so he must be living like a king!

Compare that to Slovakia were you'd be lucky to earn over €1k per month (minimum wage €350, average wage €750) and you can clearly see why the Czech's left and the Slovak's stayed/keep coming.

Well its not that they can't be bothered. Most irish people have been busy learning about the 800 years of strife between ourselves and the UK. Doesn't leave much room for the history of the other 20 odd countries that are situated nearby.

Also, to further answer the OPs question, its worth pointing out the population of Poland is about 40 million, the population of the Czech Republic is about 10 million. Theres less to travel ;)

Because of course the Czechs are a bit like the Germans. Efficient but dull. Which is why the Nazis invaded them in 1938. In the early part of the war one of the best German tanks was in fact Czech. It's no accident that Volkswagen bought into Skoda. Skodas are in fact VWs.

They don't emigrate because they are really a bit German.
