Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    McClean to Man City

Not a transfer rumour as such but there was that campaign to get some kid from Bray who somehow found his way to Inter (or another Italian club) to win an online vote as the clubs greatest ever player :pac:

Also rumours abounded online during our long winded hunt for a manager post Stan. Rubbish about various figures being seen at the airport and in taxis etc etc.

    Most of them.

Not a transfer rumour as such but in the same field of reporters not checking their facts.

I heard a story about two lads who were having an argument online over who was a better player Gattusso or Tommasi. The person arguing the case of Tommasi eventually conceded they were both equal in terms of their toughness but that Tommasi was obviously far more intelligent and to prove this he linked him to Tommasi's wiki page which he had edited to show Tommasi as having a masters in Philosophy

A few weeks later Tommasi was being interviewed by Italian TV and was asked about how his study in Philosophy impacted on his life as a professional footballer and Tommasi didn’t have a clue what the reporter was taking about.

I'm gonna suggest having an Irish element to this. Someone to retire after the Euros or something :P

Probably only stating the obvious here but... It's got to be mildly believable. There's no point in saying Messi to Yeovil, cause it won't be picked up. McClean to City could be a decent one.

A massive amount of people adamantly believe Wayne Rooney could have played for us, even though he clearly states in his book that his Irish ancestry on both sides is from too far back to be eligible. Liverpool having been economically depressed for so long in the 20th century means most of its Irish are from the famine era and thereafter.

Maybe a story about how Martin Kelly, who has grandparents from Donegal, was on the verge of accepting a last minute call-up to the ROI Squad before Euro 2012 to replace Foley. He turned it down an hour before the deadline for the squad submissions, and Trapp had to call in McShane because he had already cut Foley.

I started a rumour a a couple of years ago that Ronnie Whelan was taking over as manager of Dundalk and also added it to his wiki page. It made the sports news on Today FM

You know what Trap is like with loyalty and players who he hopes already know how to play his system. Wouldnt matter if Kelly was as good a defender as Paul McGrath he still wouldnt have got a late call up as unlike McShane he had not been sworn into "the system"- its fcuking easier getting accepted to be sworn into the mafia than getting into Don Traps inner circle. Even McClean only got in because of the intense public pressure forcing the FAI to strongly urge him to do it before the north tried to approach him again.

That sounds like you're talking about the one and only Ronnie O'Brien who was leading the charge for TIME magazine 'Person of the Century' until they realised it was an Internet hoax!

Kenny Dalglish to sensationally replace Whealan as United Number 2?

How is that his brother can play for us then?

A Murdoch news outlet in erroneous news story? Surely not :pac:

I would be more inclined to trust Rooney saying he 100% is ineligible.

And bearing in mind the story is from April, and quotes from, of all people, fcuking Cascarino, it more than likely is a late or re posted April Fools gag.

Or just complete horseh1te- the journos name is Irish, he is, like half of Ireland, likely under this illusion Rooney was and is eligible for no reason bar his surname.

Similar to Newcastle, Stoke have a big fan base on forums and Twitter etc. Try get a rumour going that a LOI division 1 winger will sign for them, similar to McClean etc.
