83mm is a lot, but it could be worse. Parts of the Pensacola area in Florida were hit by more than 13 inches (330mm) of rain on Saturday. That's the second-highest recorded there, the highest occurring during a tropical storm in 1934. Major flooding, and there's more to come, too. (report)

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

2 day total at Markee Castle, Co. Sligo was 84.6mm with the 66.3mm at Mt. Dillon, Co. Roscommon being the 2nd highest.

Edit: Correction to above. Knock's 71.7mm was 2nd highest while Mt. Dillon's total was the 3rd.

Note to self: get facts straight before posting..

As a matter of interest, why are these other stations not all summarised in the Yesterday's Weather page?

I hadn't realised there was a synoptic station here in Newport. Wednesday had a max temp. of 19.4c!

IFA says Shannon levels rising by 2 inches per hour.

The Irish Farmers Association is calling for a flood prevention system to be created along the river Shannon.

The organisation said that levels are rising by 2 inches an hour due to the bad weather.

Gates have been put in place to control water levels - however they argue the group responsible for opening them did so too late this week.
