Need upgrade advice- gaming PC

9. When are you purchasing? 1 or 2 weeks

I will be upgrading from this:
Asus P5B deluxe wifi
E6600 dual core 2.4Ghz overclocked to 3.2 Ghz.
Main HD is a WD Barracuda 150Gb fast seek time disk
Secondary HD's are 500Gb Samsung drives x 3
Graphics card is 8800GTX
Memory is 4 x OZC PC2 6400 1Gb Dual Channel Gold.
Case is Antec front and rear air cooled case.
PSU is Seasonic 600W

So mainly need advice on

Processor
Memory

slighlty over budget but I'd strongly advice you to upgrade your graphics card aswell, luckily you can get a 6870 for less then €150 these days:

why 1333MHz RAM over 1600MHz? theres a huge difference between the two espiecally for overclocking

edit: also i noticed that thermaltake heatsink is smaller and shifts less air so any reason why you recommend that over the i30?

With Ivy and Sandy there's not a massive amount of real world performance to be had from running the memory at super high speeds. So, the cheaper RAM is fine.

It's a Mini Tower and already accomodates an oversized 120mm ThermalTake cooling fan, so I think it will be ok. Thanks for asking.

p180 is still an amazing case even by todays standards, that heatsink i posted should definatly fit because your old cpu cooler is roughly the same size, unfortunatly your old one dosn't support lga1155 so that's why you'll need to replace it

Haven't pulled the trigger on this build yet... I'm drooling over the prospects of a 120Hz Catleap.
From what I can gather I'm going to need a gtx 680 to run 2560X1440 @ 120hz

But the GTX680 is over budget, so is there a close 2nd that would get me 80 to 100 Hz @ 2560X1440?

have you looked at the catleap thread? the 120hz aren't being made anymore. there's a crowd over at 120hz.net that are getting a custom order made that can do 120hz but they're not sure when they'll be available and they also sell out in like.. an hour after going on sale.

Yes, I've been following progress and I think it's just a matter of time before we see 120Hz catleap monitors or similar makers hitting the market at around €400.

So anyway, back to Graphics cards... I'm guessing that we will see 120Hz capability.

TBH, you're more likely to keep the monitor for a long time than the GPU, get a Catleap now and whatever GPU you can muster up, play at like 60-80FPS or whatever(still fine, you wont be at a disadvantage) and then in a year or so get an 8990 or whatever.
