Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any update on who and where?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 4,948 ✭✭✭pullandbang

The Boards gang will be in the same spot as the last couple of years - first group on the East side, followed by Navan Camera Club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

And it's still just the five of us from boards?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 4,948 ✭✭✭pullandbang

Yep, so far. Lots of people put their names down at the start. Some dropped out and the rest didn't respond to PM's to pay so it will be a small intimate group :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

That's fine with me. At least we don't have to run up and down to talk to everybody and it looks like a couple of people will come to visit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 819 ✭✭✭mikka631

Really looking forward to this and meeting the other boardsies.:D
I will be away from end of this week until 23rd Aug so any tips or information would be most appreciated as to what is the best way to hang/present your images. Still haven't sourced a sheet of clear plastic should the great weather we have been having here holds up for that weekend. :D
Like most things I do it will be a mad scramble at the last minute, but sure it adds to the fun of it all sometimes;)

I should have some spare ones. I got a load made last year for Boardsies and I'm hoping to do so again.

Pfew...first steps for preparation done! Picked pictures the other day and today got to print them...now to mount them this weekend and Peoples Photography may come...:)

(And I can look a bit more relaxed at August which developed into a pretty busy month...)

xia, you are too organised! I only have about 20 prints done and mounted :D

I want to do a few more (enough to cover the DCC Summer competition entry including the ones already printed) probably about 25 in all.

I get bored easily so will want to change them a lot (in the vain hope that someone will like some of of them).

Plus, I have to fix my deckchair from last year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

Turned out I'll only have 15 prints - one picture didn't have the quality to get printed.
So you guys will get bored in all the upcoming competitions ;)

I simply bought a new chair. They are cheap enough. Well, that's probably the reason it broke...

Sent mine off for printing yesterday - all 52 of them :D

    Wonder what they'll be.........;)

    Hi everyone,

Hope preparation is going well. I haven't even starting printing yet - I've plans to do everything this weekend.

Just wondering what printers and framers everyone is using? Are there any places in Dublin that do both?

How many pictures is everyone aiming to print?

I've never been to this event before so trying to get an idea about how you all do it. Looking forward to it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,268 ✭✭✭trooney

I'll have about 10 or 12 A3ish sized prints, mounted, but not framed. Framing is just too much of a hassle for the day. Big, bulky and cumbersome. Heavier to hang and display. Heavier to transport about. More prone to damage. Simple mounting is where it’s at. Bring string. Cable ties. Scissors. Clear plastic to keep rain off but still viewable. Bring a chair of some sort or other. Something warm to wear. Business cards, if you so desire. Perhaps a few postcard sized prints of your work to either give away or to sell (selling is, seemingly, frowned upon by the event organisers due to some licensing issue. That doesn’t stop people trying to sell though).
I'm not concerned about changing what I have on view. I don't see any point in adding to any confusion by doing so.
For all your printing/mounting/framing needs I'd recommend Steve from 360-dpi.com (goes by the moniker stcstc here on boards). He's very good and very knowledgeable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

Oh! Far more people for boards allocated than I thought we would be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,268 ✭✭✭trooney

Def more than expected. Was under the impression we'd have a very low boardsie turn out this year. Looks to be not so bad.

That's wrong, should only be the 5 that were mentioned earlier. I'll get them to change the website.

i tend to end up with a good few people getting me to do their stuff, i would suggest not framing though, just mounted looks good, keeps the costs down too

and them put them in poly bags

Getting closer!!! :) Looking forward to it now, just a teeny bit panicked!

I won't be able to use my space on the Sunday - does anyone want to take it for the day or part of - to avoid an empty space? Such a pity :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

boo! To you not being there on Sunday! Far too many empty spaces anyhow seeing the allocations on our side of the Green are still not fixed.

No panic luckily here though. You'll get it done too!

There you go folks, just updated the page.

Getting close now - hope the rain holds off.

Have most of my photos printed (more than I need but not as many as I want :D).

Some finishing touches tonight and then load up the car for the morning.

    See you all tomorrow

    Adrian

Which is the best Luas park & ride stop to use? I can't justify the parking fees for two days close to "The Green"

Do what we do - arrive early, park and keep an eye out for the clampers :) If the appear, join the queue at the ticket machine. It's free on Sunday anyway.

Totally! Don't think I'd fancy lugging all my shít for the day on the luas or a bus if I could avoid it.

enjoy the weekend folks. hope the weather holds up for ye better than last year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Phil Taz

What time does this start at? Dont want to head in to early ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 monosnaps

Parking is always a problem, the clampers generally leave us alone since there was trouble at the Peoples Art and it got on the Joe Duffy show, they got a lot of bad press. You still need to be careful. Tall Ships is also on so will put more pressure on parking. Parking is free on Sunday but only until 2:00pm. Weather looking good, after last year we need a break.

So, after bemoaning the fact that I had deleted all the images I intended to use for the Peoples Photography this year, guess what I found last night on an unmarked CD?
    /Doh!
Next year I'm going for a set of 3D-HDR Zombies.

Great to meet fellow boardsies and put faces to names.
A very friendly bunch and full of craic (mad as hatters really) as well as being most helpful to this first timer on "The Green", I would still be hanging mine only for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and a huge Thank You to Denis for going out of the way to get the plastic sheeting.
Look forward to hooking up with you boardsies again soon.../Mick

Had a walk around the exhibition on Saturday, looked great, nice work everyone! Loved the paper bags, I wish I'd stopped to say hello, hadn't realised it was a Boards member.

I totally forgot about it this year, would love to take part next year, it looks like a lot of fun :)
