Eircom router issue

I'm trying to access my router at home to get the password for a new laptop but then I type in the router address 192.168.1.254 nothing comes up. Has it been changed or something

From a command prompt type ipconfig if Windows or ifconfig from a terminal if linux. The default gateway is the address of the router.
