Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

22 year old male heading to vancouver solo in september. just wondering if anyone is in the same boat and going over in or round that time ??

Looking for some advice on best things to do/see over there, how to keep accommmodation cheapish (hostels/flat share etc), best ways to meet people if you're travelling alone.

Also, can anyone tell me if there's casual work available just to stop me from cuttin into savings too much?! If so, how would you go about getting one - I heard jobs in Vancouver are really competitive!

    Thanks in advance!
    :)

This website http://www.moving2vancouver.ca/ has looooooooads of helpful info!

This other website is great for checking out places to live. Just type in Vancouver into that section in the bottom left. You can also play around with how much rent you willing to pay. Though it's best to find work first before accommodation....or at least find a place near to a skytrain station.

I'm spending my time checking out places every week. Most places start renting on the 1st of every month so more places will be available to check out in the middle of the month.

As for work....get yourself into the nearest Irish Immigration Centre they will give you info. Plus head into any Irish bar and ask around there :)

    Hey!

Myself and my friend also heading to Vancouver, hopefully around Sept/October..

Kijiji.ca and craigslist.ca are good websites to browse when you're looking for jobs and housing.. Most places (within our budget anyways) are basement suites. Seems a lot of people there convert their basements to rent out.. But they're grand, although most of 'em are unfurnished.. again, craigslist could be a good place to look for cheap furniture and ****..

We've been eyeing up areas like Burnaby, Killarney, Hastings, etc to live in.., not quite IN the city but still close enough to be accessible.. Rent in areas like Downtown, Coal Harbour, Kitsilano, Yaletown are all cool and fancypants and generally more expensive..

Here's a few links that could be helpful:

Keep in mind East Hastings doesn't have the best reputation.
