If anyone's looking for a bit of five star family luxury on the Algarve, I'm recently back from Martinhal, in the very south-westerly corner of Portugal/Europe. Some place!

There's a review of it here (on A Luxury Travel Blog)

    or, in shorter form:

The Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel is tucked away in Europe’s farthest south-west corner, on the glorious Algarve coast. Set in a nature reserve, this family destination promises sunshine, elegance and five star luxury.

It is a lazy pace of life here, with sea breezes drifting across the private beach and over the railings of two of the resort’s three restaurants. Portuguese cuisine is a specialty, with locally-caught, fresh fish always on the menu. With views over the ocean, islands and the village of Sagres on the distant headland, there may be no finer setting to enjoy crisp, golden calamari with a chilled glass of wine. Enjoying it al fresco merely enhances your holiday pleasure.

‘Lazy pace’ doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do – far from it – and this is where Martinhal is irresistible. Activities on offer include wind-surfing, mountain-biking and dolphin watching, but Martinhal was designed to be child friendly and it is certainly that. There are five Kids’ Clubs which will take your children, aged six months to 18 years, off your hands for up to six hours a day. Staffed by qualified childcare professionals, it means you’ll have some quality time to yourselves. Spend it together, visiting local sights like the Fortaleza de Sagres, built by Prince Henry the Navigator in the 15th century, or relaxing by one of the resort’s five swimming pools. Alternatively, you can spend the time apart, experiencing Martinhal’s Finisterra Spa or one of the Algarve’s renowned golf courses. There’s also a babysitting service if a romantic dinner on the terrace beckons.

The resort opened in 2010 and delivers effortless comfort, from the deep hotel sofas to the spacious and elegantly furnished bedrooms, all with sea views. Houses and villas are also available to rent if the family needs a number of bedrooms.
