Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How has Dunphy lived this long and still not understand offside.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,625 ✭✭✭flyswatter

I think he was onside myself.

Dunphy was looking at the wrong player for the offside incident, sweet jesus...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,182 ✭✭✭Sappy404

    Dunphy you clod:

"The linesman just about got it right."

First replay: nothing. a few seconds later "he's never offside"

Then, "I was looking at the wrong incident"

"It was marginal , Bill. Marginal."

He was looking at the wrong player? I would have thought it was pretty obvious that the crosser was getting called offside.

Brady, unlike the other two does watch some of the other leagues.Giles has not a clue outside the the top six in England

Poor auld Liam. They wind him up something terrible.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭kev9100

That discussion on the offside pretty much summed up what is great, and terrible, about the RTE coverage. You have to love it:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,465 ✭✭✭kitakyushu

Shocking game by Dunphy. He can usually play it broad enough to spoof his way out of a corner, but that was too much even for him.

According to the RTE commentator Russia and the Czech Rep are "two countries that have changed their names in recent times". Thanks for the simplistic history lesson there!

Brian Kerr going on about the dancers throwing shapes :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,219 ✭✭✭✭Pro. F

Kerr on the pre-match entertainments: ''A lot of dancing and people throwing shapes in the middle of the pitch.''

He's quite a coup for RTE to have landed. Hopefully he'll be promoted to the studio panel someday soon.

    Something I always wondered about.

Why do Czech Rep get the history, but Slovakia don't?

Same with Russia, they get the USSR history, but all the other former SSRs don't.

Ukraine and Georgia would have had a huge influence on the USSR sides of the past

Complaining about the RTE panel not doing their research is like going out with a glamour model and complaining when she doesn't cook your dinner.

Please don't compare Dunphy and Co to glamour models. My dinner nearly came back up.

I suppose the ones who want to break away give up the history.

Great to see Jerkoff and Arseshavin back at the biggest stage.

Jesus lad, get it together and do your research before posting. European border and territory history is not that hard to keep track of.

No you're not on your own.

He said "tight" like Goldmember does. I can't take him seriously.

Russians tearing the Czech defence apart. Wonderful ball through!

Wouldn't that back it up tho? The Republic are the 'breakaway' team from "Ireland" ( Northern Ireland do claim all the results prior to 1921 for instance).

Could be worse lads, could be forced into watching US coverage, first game was Steve McManaman and Ballack in the studio. Alexei Lalas and Casey keller doing match commentary

Russia is the team FIFA recognise as the successor to the USSR side.

Slovakia get a Raw deal though.

He knows his football but he talks far too much and much too loudly. It's actually painfully irritating.

I wish he would just be quiet.

Ah this is a praise-only thread?

    Soz.

no, but you can expect to be called on it if you are criticising things that people criticise every time this happens.

We know they are bad, but they are entertaining.

We know the hipsters prefer "knowledgeable" pundits, but they are boring, bland and afraid to say what they think on ITV and BBC.

RTE makes up for it's failings on the information front by being trolling geniuses, and funny, and colourful.

I reckon the RTE boys are lot more knowledgeable than you give them credit for. Far more knowledgeable than anything BBC or ITV have to offer.
