Nice showing how Swansea play with ordinary players but do they really expect a stubborn Italian in his seventies is going to change his philosophy?

    No chance!
Exactly. Ridiculous to say otherwise. Trap was tasked with getting us to a major tournament. He nearly got us there on the first try and done so on the second. He's not the man for the job if we now want free flowing football, and he's not going to change his philosophy now.

We would get destroyed if we tried to play like Swansea. We wouldn't have qualified for this tournament if we had. We are not a top class side, this tournament proved this. We have to play a certain style to get results.

Did they seriously take 2 clips of a few players taken out of the last 2 years and make it sound like they would have been running rings around Spain and Italy?

The RTE Soccer Facebook page now has an actual question:

    Love it :D

Dunphy is on with the wine on Craig Doyle's show. Knew he couldn't keep off it that long.

Dunphy on the sauce on Craig Doyle. Pity he didn't have a few in him already.

No i love how people take certain things and twist it to suit themselves, what they were saying was you dont need Fabregas etc to play nice football we can play decent football in a more entertaining way than what we are now and they used Swansea, Norwich as an example of this.

It was never said we would have beaten Spain, Italy. We could have lost the three games regardless but its the manner in which we lost all games.

Thought it was great seeing Bill trying to read Kazakhstan on the autocue. Sounded like he was saying we were playing away in Craggy Island. We'd have no problems there of course, as long as we kept Trap away from the annual all-priests five-a-side over 75s indoor football challenge match...against Rugged Island.

Where are the Spain highlights ?
I'm actually disgusted they didn't show them, what kind of Euro coverage can you call that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,758 ✭✭✭Laois_Man

It's wonderful how they manage to present a guy like Wes Hoolahan in a presentation "for Ireland's future" and then just happen to forget to mention that he's 30 years old.

They seriously think they're talking to an audience who haven't a bog what they're looking at!

Before critisising someone for claiming the panel said something they never said, you might first check I made such a claim! I never said they said we'd have beaten Spain and Italy.

The crux of the point is the likes of Coleman isn't one iota better than the player who did play in that position in this tournament.....Duff!

Ah but i would say he could be classed as better, Duff is still a fantastic player with huge experience, but at 33 he doesnt have the pace or energy anymore especially for the amount of demands of three games in such short space, much rather bring Coleman on right wing instead of pushing doyle out wide, so Coleman could have been a better option and most certainly should be in the team for the world cup qualifiers considering they were talking about the future and the changes theyd like to see made, plus dont forget Coleman is versatille and can play right full aswell.

Younger, more pace, actually right footed. Duff is past it and offered nothing. I'm a huge fan of the old Duff, but he hasn't done it for Ireland for a while now. Coleman, when he shakes off those injuries, is a very good player.

upon what basis do you say Coleman can play at full back?

Coleman isn't very different to Kevin Kilbane in his day. Limited ability. Knock it past the full back and chase it. That's all Kilbane could do. That's all Coleman can do!

Upon seeing him play there, sure if you even check the official Everton website they have listed as a right back first and foremost, upon what basis do you hint that Coleman cant?

So your your trying to say that Coleman shouldnt be playing ahead of Duff in one post and then comparing him with Kilbane who earned plenty of caps playing for Ireland? Also a player although with "limited ability" had a fairly successful career in England and at international level.

Wow. Thats actually funny. You haven't watched much of Coleman if you think thats all he can do. Thats doing Kilbane a big unjustice too as well by the way.

thats very noticeable about coleman alright, when he has alot of space to run into he's alright, he's poor in tight spaces though, dosnt have the ball control or awareness in tight spaces, still he has alot of energy and pace so he might make a good overlapping fullback coming from deep, but trap dosnt like overlapping fullbacks!!!

I'm an Everton supporter and I watch every single Everton game. Coleman played in about 20 games this past season and we didn't see one single good cross from him. So taste them apples!

LOL Your original point wasn't even about crosses. Coleman can go past players and ive seen plenty of good crosses from him. Not gonna judge a player on a season broken up by injuries. Did you really say 'taste them apples' by the way? Could imagine you sticking your thumb on your nose and waving your fingers.

What do you think was my point. He plays wide right. Wtf do you think the main purpose is if it's not crosses? He's a massive liability tracking back too. You saw a few good crosses from him in his first spell in the Everton team....and during a spell in The Championship on loan at Blackpool before that - but now PL full backs have him sussed out. And he doesn't go past anyone any more.

Coleman has never ever once played right back for Everton. So you must have saw it at either Sligo Rovers or while on loan at Blackpool. Hardly a good yardstick

I never said Coleman shouldn't play for Ireland. I've said he'll be no improvement on Duff.
    The Duff of 2012!

The Duff of now is a shadow of the player he was. Coleman should at least get a chance don't you think? Then again we have a manager who doesnt really do chances. Coleman is very good going forward and I think he'd be more of a threat than Duff has been lately.

of course. I think Coleman should get a chance. I'm convinced Duff just played his last game tonight so I'm not sure what else we can do. I also think Gibson should get a chance. I'd give Greg Cunningham a go at left back. I hope he'd get a permanent move away from Man City tho. We also need Westwood out of Sunderland. I have good hopes for Duffy at Everton too. And a couple of young fella's at Villa not including Ciaran Clark (Caruthers and Grealish). Young Brady at Man Utd. Clifford and Henderson - 2 young midfielders at Chelsea and Arsenal - the latter is thought extremely highly of by Arsne Wegner. Most of these guys will see Brazil 2014 come too soon for them. But I'm very upbeat about our medium to long term prospects. The short term prospects - grim.

I felt the player supercut was a Dunphy driven agenda. The pointed thanking of the VT analyst and the risible attempts to goad Brady into passing comment.

One thing from this Euros; Brady is a silent partner in the Ireland set up. Much like the way he has an audience with Wenger; more than we'd believe, he has never betrayed the trust of either man for the RTE shilling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Dunphy did exactly what Brady said he would do in the opening match.

His Wes Hoolahan/Swansea rant doesnt hold much water tbh.

I'd have to ask you more specifically what you mean by betray but I also think, on the otherhand, he isn't doing his job as a pundit if he consistently sugarcoats or cops out of legitimate criticism because of previous relationships.

Also now an overhit corner is a "huuuuge one"
