Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Really? Just an old stereotype. Seems the Irish are far more confident of their chances of some sort of success than the English in this tournament.

Check the Ireland prediction thread. I'd say about half of the posters don't think were gonna win a single match and a quarter don't even think we're gonna score a goal. No over-confidence for Irelands chances if this board is anything to go by.

More revenue for RTE. "Yeah text in and tell us what you think blah blah blah"

Youre last few posts are just confusing me.

Nothing really confusing about that. RTE come up with some inane/boring question for Joe Public and they oblige by texting in and providing some revenue for RTE. Probably not all that much though.

    No texting...it was twitter.

Why are people so bloody bitter.

Even if it was texting RTE wouldn't be forcing people to text!

i thought it was only a online poll but even so you are giving out about rte getting people to text but you are doing it yourself.

    Straight over your head!

Anyway, wasn't giving out about RTE, just being cynical. Which is normally a good stance to have with them.

94% of Ireland think we'll get through the group. Lol.

That's what happens when Euro fever takes hold.

It's mad that even Dunphy is optimistic but he'll skillfully pirouette and change opinion if the wheels fall off come Sunday. I hope Ireland can get through and I'll be cheering them all the way but it won't come as any particular shock if it doesn't happen. What I do expect, though, is for them to be tough to beat, not give much away and be able to hold their head up going into the final game of the group stages. Anything more than that is a bonus.

Hopefully RTE will get a guest person on the panel to stir things up a bit. It was nice to see Graeme Souness there a few years ago.

Yeah I hope so too. The main panel is fine but I think that we've gotten used to them drafting in another personality or two for the big tournaments and it has really worked. It stops the main team from getting too cosy and believing their own hype.

Gary Neville anyone? They drafted Souness in from Sky the last time.

Don't see why not. ITV always do this during the Rugby World Cup except they basically get everyone from Sky in!

He's been given a coaching role with England for the Euros.

RTE actually did approach him a few weeks back.

    Dear George Hamilton,

why is it you've decided Wojciech Szczesny's surname should be pronounced Chesney when he's playing for Arsenal and SetChesney when he's playing for Poland? Get back to me whenever you get the chance ;)

I remember his first match at Germany 2006 when Eamonn made one of his usual comments.

"Jesus, you can actually say that!? I'm going to love this place it seems."

Hamilton goes out of his way to pronounce players names by the way they are said locally. For Arsenal games he probably didnt bother getting the proper pronunciation.

He's definitly on the lineup somewhere. The Star (I think) had a pull out the other week with all the RTE pundits. First thing I checked for was Didi. Souness was on it too.

Can't listen to him at all, his voice goes right through me.

Then again, considering they're showing a major tournament on ''free'' television they could have anyone doing the punditry/commentary and I wouldn't really care.

When I turned on RTE to watch the match yesterday and saw the same guys there again on the panel I turned over to the BBC. If Hamann or Souness are there today I will watch it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,255 ✭✭✭Renn

What happened when you turned over to BBC?
