Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

All dunphy said was that he was playing in a substandard league. Fair enough.

Munster Senior League is a fairly low standard in fairness.

    Liam is gonna murder bill
Just missed that, saw Bill say he'd withdraw his comment. What did he say?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

Something about bill thinking Liam thought Ireland has no chance.

Half time after the game last night.

Bill: Well that was a bit of a bummer wasn't it?

    Hilarious.

Sadlier and Hamann, with Maloney I think. They seem to be the 'Ukraine team', while the senior guys seem to be the 'Poland team'.

Ugh. Sadlier is quite awful. Nice seeing Hamann though. Think he's an excellent pundit. Pity they've not got Irwin back. Thought he was very good during the World Cup coverage.

I like him, not a 'yes man' like so many ex-Irish players turned pundits.

Apparently Steve Wilson has yet to commentate on a match for the BBC, despite being listed as one of their 4 guys in Poland/Ukraine. Wonder what's up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,591 ✭✭✭ambid

Sadlier always sounds pissed off though - he seems to start every answer with a sigh and a monotone mumble. He is pretty insightful once you get past that though.

Didi just did a very good pre-match assessment on England. Good panel selection, RTE Sport.

Speaking as an England fan, I'm relieved that Dunphy has been rested again. Gabby Logan will be able to conduct her post-match interviews and England fans will be able to sing their songs without being verbally abused by the bandwagon chaser.

Land of Hope and Glory ... !

God Save Our Gracious ... oh I forgot, Dunphy pretends to like her, but the old bigot doesn't fool me.

Is he commentating on Eng game?.

If so then must get missus to change recorded channel to UTV. Lad is so out of his depth (nevermind comfort zone, he doesn't have one of them).

Yea, he knows something about European football unlike Dunphy who just repeats 5 mins later what Brady told him about an Italian player.

Who's commentating with Trevor Welch? He's trying a posh English accent some times. That'll drive me mad.

I take your point. However, if that's his personality, then I would rather he stays true to it, rather than have his natural persona media-trained out of him. I watch a fair bit of US sporting analysts and they are all essentially homogeneous puppets with identical vocal styles and hand gestures. It really has you pining for a moan, if nothing else to restore a sense of realism.

England playing like a more expensive Ireland so far. France look quite good.

No, Ger Canning, a lot of people don't say Joe Hart is the best keeper in the world. I haven't met any anyway.

Carragher on ITV is quite confident him and Neuer are the best in the Euros and in time will both be the best in the world.

Thing is, without Dunphy, the panel is a little bland as they agree with each other a lot. Dunphy mixes it up a bit by saying controversial things.

Dunphy is like the Xavi/Pirlo in there making it all work. Without him all you've got is a bunch of Andrews.

He's entertaining but a caricature of himself at the best of times. Bit muted so far though by his own standards.

Where England is concerned, Dunphy is a cheap pub bigot. If RTE are serious about keeping racism out of football, keeping Dunphy away from England games would be a good start.

The RTE team played a blinder today (even if England didn't) and this one license fee paying England supporter was able to enjoy the match without being abused.

You do realise that despite all he's done in the game he still goes missing in alot of matches and quite a few high profile games at that

Ibra has never done it at club level according to ray Houghton.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

JEsus the ****e they talk about Ibrahimovic is mental.

    For example.

Giles:Great players don't move, the fact that he's moved clubs a few times suggests to me he isn't that good, managers won't let great players move.

HE left Ajax for a much bigger club in a bigger league.
He Left Juve because they were relegated.
He left Inter to join the best club in the world for massive money.

The only place where the manager "let him go" was Barca where himself and the manager apparently hated each other.

Ibra has more trophies than Houghton has shoddy product endorsements.

Look at berbatov. His statistics two seasons ago had him joint top scorer. Statistics can hide a players weakness. For me I didn't see zlatan in most games, only big ones for Sweden or his clubs and he more often then not looked an average player at best.

Some players are great at being effective in alot of their teams games but no so
Effective in harder games. I would put him in that bracket.

I do realise that that's pretty much BS.

Its a lazy, tabloid comment. He might "go missing" but you can't say he's never done it a club level with the amount of club trophies that he has won.

If you watch enough of him, there is no argument that he is inconsistent to a certain degree. I'm sure if I bother I could pull stats to counter the ones you have.
