    From that view id guess an Lenticular cloud below some altostratus.

    It was a lenticular cloud allright, there was a small one first, then a big lump of clouds above it developped into the same shape. Saw them from West Waterford (not city), pity got a pic on my phone but can't seem to transfer it to my computer.

    edit : got it ! not a great pic, but another angle anyway.
    the lump above turned into another one, less defined.

    Lenticular clouds are quite common over the Comeraghs under certain conditions.
    I see them from Clonmel looking east towards Carrick On Suir.
